Oh my goodness, this is perfect! I have just started to teach my children German. I used to speak it fairly well, but with nobody to speak it with for almost 15 years, I have lost it. So I am brushing up and trying to teach them as well. I just did a post last week about needing to find German children's books. This is such a help. Thank you so very much!!!

He could start up the German again? Even if she "only" understands German it is a form of bilingualism and opens her up much more "to other cultures" etc? Holidays to only German speaking relatives also help? Good luck!

Interestingly, we also have the same book - unfortunately, husband sort of slipped into English with daughter, since it's so much easier. I speak very little German, so it doesn't help matters.

ooh Maggy I didn't know you were raising your kids bilingually! How exciting :-) So are we - and with a neighbouring language (well sort of) - Dutch. One thing that Dutch and German books seems to be BRILLIANT at in a way UK books aren't is having lots of stuff translated from other languages. So for example just for fun yesterday I was looking for Finnish kids books (! I know, I get my kicks in strange ways) and there is very little available translated into English, but translated in to German there is really quite a lot. Do you know http://mummydothat.blogspot.com/ - another German/English bilingual family, with regular posts about bilingualism. One German picture book we like here is: http://www.playingbythebook.net/2009/11/27/toy-hospitals-again/
