Craft Book Review – A Green Guide to Country Crafts

20 June 2011 3 Comments

Ooooh I am such a fan of Cico books! A few months ago they sent me “Cute & Easy Crochet” and I LOVED it! They have now sent me this gorgeous book A green Guide to Country Crafts. And I love it!

What particularly attracted me to it, is it’s section about Soap Making – it is a craft I am yet to have a go at and master. Everything I have read about it on the web so far however has left me confused and uncertain – is soap making easy or not? Is it dangerous or not? Eek, do I give it a go or not…? Well, I am now well and truly inspired and chomping on the bit to have a go! The book clearly lets me know what I need and what to be careful with. It even tells me what I need to do if I want to go commercial with my soaps! Lovely.

The question now, do I go for a honey scrub or some rose and geranium soap?

The book isn’t just about soap, there are some lovely quilting and applique ideas. Some great simple, but oh so effective candle making suggestions, as well as weaving and rag rug making! I remember rug making from my childhood and now I most definitely want to have a go again and show my children how… Oh and if that isn’t enough, how about converting an old tray into a magnetic board (complete with how to make your own lovely magnets) or turning old shirts into bunting…

I could go on all day… I think you need to check out the book!

Oh Jen. This is such a hard year for you. I know you miss your mum terribly! Totally “get it” that you don’t feel very crafty at the moment. :-( so sorry. Sending you a big hug!
