And yes, I will most definitely be reminding people next ;-) We filled ours with school supplies (so a pencil case, water bottle, some notebooks) as well as sweets (sweets are part of it, I am afraid!!!). The pencil case etc filled it out nicely. You can also add a little cuddly toy or key rings, erasers, pencil sharpeners – school related nick knacks!

We’re an English/German family living in Germany, so will get the Zuckertueten eventually. My two are too little yet (2 years and 10 months) but I look forward to giving them their Schultueten. I also love the tradition and still remember mine with a cuddly toy looking out on top.

Made it from wallpaper samples with coloured tissue paper and ribbon at the top. It has turned out to be the same size as my boy who’s v excited about the schultuete and it’s contents!

In Germany/ Austria it would be “Year 1″. But as “Reception” is the year everyone considers kids to start school in the UK, I decided to do it now :-)
