Book Review: Just Sew & Giveaway
Well, I haven’t done a book review here on Red Ted Art for a little while, though we still love browsing through craft and cook books.. as well as kids Picture Books. I guess that Life At The Zoo has stolen our book reviewing thunder. But every so often, I still want to share a book with you here too.
This time it is “Just Sew & Stories” by Katie Allen. There is a flurry of wonderfully crafty bloggers being published at the moment (myself included – Red Ted Art, 60 Cool Crafts for Kids will be out in March 2013) and Katie Allen is now exception – normally she writes at Katie Stitches, writes for Mollie Makes and now she has her very own book to share with you.
I think the whole ethos of the big is very clear right from the beginning: “I can make that”. There are 25 cute and quirky craft projects in this book that should leave you feeling that you can make that and wanting to have a go. There is nothing worse than a craft book that leaves you feeling craty inadequate. Crafts is for everyone and should be fun and doable. As per the title, the book is for sewers, so if you think you can’t sew, do NOT look away, but stay. Many of the projects are cute and simple and not scary at all – you can hand or machine sew a number of them. A great way to “get into sewing” or practice using your machine.
Not that I know Katie personally, but you can tell that this book is all “her” (helps that she models many of the projects herself!). I think my favourite projects are the cute DIY pets based on your own pet’s photographs (I may just make these for my kids!), quirky “Squash Sisters” pillows (mmmh I am thinking DIY Pop Art pillow inspiration coming on) and the adorable little Hipster Dolls (you know can’t resist a Dolly!). Leaving me “wanting to rummage through my fabric stash and get sewing”.
