How To… Make a Dimensional Magic Scroll Frame

Mod Podge Fun - create stunning picture frames

Well hallo there! I’m Amy, from Mod Podge Rocks. If you’ve never heard of Mod Podge, it’s the world’s best decoupage medium (in my humble opinion). I love the stuff, so I started a blog about it. It’s one of the easiest craft products you’ll ever use, so come visit me any time to learn more.

I’m excited to be here today sharing my Dimensional Magic scroll frame! Dimensional Magic (or DM as I call it) is an acrylic version of resin, so it does the same thing, but it’s non-toxic. And there is no mixing. You just apply it and you have an epoxy like finish! I use it a lot to accentuate items like jewelry, and cards . . . and frames. This time I took a bold fabric, added a wood piece an then added DM, and I love the results. Here’s how I did it.

Gather These Supplies

  • Scroll frame
  • Mod Podge Satin
  • Mod Podge Dimensional Magic

  • Fabric of your choice
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • Wax paper
  • Pencil
  • Craft glue

Before you begin, you are going to prep your fabric with Mod Podge. This means you’ll paint a medium layer of Mod Podge over the fabric you’d like to use and then let dry (I used the wax paper to cover my surface). One the Mod Podge is dry, take the back out of your wood frame and place it face down on the back of the fabric. Trace your frame and then cut out the fabric. Set aside.

Paint your frame with Teal paint. I didn’t paint the front of the frame – just the sides and the back. If you are wondering why, it’s because dark colors can show through fabric, and I didn’t want that to happen when I Mod Podged my fabric down. Let dry.

At the same time, paint your scroll frame with Navy. I just did the sides and front. Let dry.

Paint a medium layer of Mod Podge on the front of the frame. Smooth the fabric down. You may want to work one section at a time if the frame is larger. Get all the fabric Mod Podged down and then let dry for 15 – 20 minutes.

Once the Mod Podge is dry, add a top coat and let dry. Then add a few more coats and let dry.

To finish, glue the scroll frame to the wood frame with craft glue. Then add your Dimensional Magic to the top. Let that dry for several hours before hanging on the wall or displaying.
