MARBLED CLAY FRIENDSHIP BRACELETS

| | | | |

This is the LAST of the 31 Days of Love series for 2016! Gosh I can’t believe it is over. It has been a whirlwind of amazing craftiness and I am so pleased to have been able to host so many amazing bloggers. So today, we have the last, but by no means least, Mereith from Homegrown Friends, showing us how to make some cute marbled clay friendship bracelets. They are prefect for Summer Camp, Back to School and of course Valentine’s Day!!!

I am delighted to be one of the bloggers for the 31 Days of Love Series! My name is Meredith Magee Donnelly.  I am an Early Childhood Educator, mom of three and blogger at Homegrown Friends, a site focused on play-based learning.  Over the summer we made the coolest polymer clay bowls that my kids adored.  We used the clay scraps to make cool jewelry.  For Valentine’s Day I thought it would be fun to make some Marbleized Clay Friendship Bracelets for my kids and their friends. They are easy to make and look gorgeous!

WHAT YOU NEED FOR THE MARBLED CLAY FRIENDSHIP BRACELETS

  • Polymer clay (we like the Sculpey brand, get some here – US/ UK (affiliate links)) – we chose white, pink, red and yellow
  • Rolling pin
  • Stretchy string
  • Glue gun
  • Small cookie cutters (we used a heart and a flower)

HOW TO MAKE THE MARBLED CLAY FRIENDSHIP BRACELETS

Begin by creating small snakes out of the clay.  Our pieces were about ½ inch thick and 5 inches long.  The white piece was double the thickness of the other colors.  Twist all the colors together.  Fold in half and twist again.  Roll flat with a rolling pin.

Next twist the piece together again.  Fold in half and twist again.  Roll flat with a rolling pin.  Repeat these steps one more time.  This will create that awesome marbleized effect.

Cut out small shapes from the flattened clay.  We made one heart for the center of our bracelets and then cut out small flowers and circles.   Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet in a 275 degree F oven for 15 minutes.  Let clay pieces cool completely.

Cut a small piece of stretchy string the size of the person’s wrist and tie ends together.  Next use the glue gun to connect each clay shape to the string.  Let glue cool.  That’s it!  Your marbleized clay friendship bracelet is ready for you or as a gift.  Make some of our Marbleized Paper to write a sweet note to a friend.
