We are having 31 Days of Love related crafts – from Valentines Gifts Kids Can Make to Valentines Cards. Lots of lovely love related crafts to keep you and the kids inspired and busy this coming weeks.

Today we have the lovely Kim from The Educators’ Spin On It visiting Red Ted Art and helping kick off the 31 Days of Love series!

Let’s welcome the New Year for a special loved one in your child’s life with a sweet little birdie greeting card.  You can create this card with just a few simple art supplies but the message will leave an everlasting smile on any recipient.

I’m thrilled that Maggy has invited many bloggers this month to participate in her 31 Days of Love Project on Red Ted Art.  My name is Kim Vij and I’m honored to share this little birdie card.  I blog at The Educators’ Spin On It where I share tips for making every day moments into learning opportunities for parents.  This project is ideal since it incorporates many techniques into on complete project that will melt any heart.  Now let’s get started on creating our own special card!

Valentine’s Cards Materials

To create your Winter Bird Card you will need the following Supplies

  • White paper {for water coloring}
  • Colored paper {Card}
  • Watercolors
  • Paintbrush
  • White ink or paint
  • Cotton Tip Swab
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Glitter
  • Crayons

Valentine’s Card How To

Directions for Winter Birds Card

  1. To start your card you need to have your child create a design with crayons on a white piece of paper.  Encourage them to make repetitive designs but any marks will do, perfect for little ones too!
  2. Then use water colors to paint of the crayon design and allow to dry.
  3. Paint Birch Tree using black paint on stripes of white paper and allow to dry.
  4. Fold colored paper in half to create a card to give to someone special.  Write inside a special note to someone you love.   A special message you may want to use is “ You Make My Heart Sparkle”

  5. Cut out shape for bird using a half circle, small beak, 4 hearts of similar size and a large heart and using glue assemble bird onto Colored paper.
  6. Then using glitter sprinkle onto the largest heart for the bird to hold.

  7. Once dry glue glitter heart onto page and draw string from bird’s mouth.
  8. Using white ink stamp all over the card to make the snow.
  9. Give your special winter bird to someone you love and make their heart SHINE this year!
