Learning resource is all about challenging children to grow! We thought these “expandable” printable Christmas Cards would be the perfect theme to reflect a growing mindset.

These cards are designed to be:

  • first and foremost – FUN!
  • mindful – kids always benefit from a little colouring time
  • reflect the theme of growth
  • provide an opportunity to spread some cheer – as once completed these colouring pages fit perfectly into an A6 envelope to be posted to loved ones
  • practice cutting and colouring skills – as well as folding skills!

To make your free expandable cards – you will need:

Surprise Christmas Cards
  • printer and white paper
  • colouring pens/ pencils/ watercolours
  • scissors
  • (an envelope for posting)

Grab your free printables – there are two to choose from – a lovely expanding Christmas Tree or the Expandable Snowman:

The snowman is also great for the New Year as a Winter Crafting activity (actually, you can use both in Winter, as the tree is plain and ready for you to decorate!). They would make lovely Thank You cards in the New Year!

How to make expandable Christmas Cards

Print off your free printables – as mentioned you have a choice of two free cards – an expandable snowman or a n expandable tree card.

colour the expandable cards

Have fun colouring in your cards! Keep it as simple or detailed as you wish! You can even add stickers and sequence if you want. If you are making these to send to friends and family, keep the colouring “simple” so you can make lots in one go. If you are making them for yourself or one special relative, add as much detail as you can!!

Add any writing at the END… so that you can make sure it fits into the folds perfectly.

cut the card

Cut out the card – by following the outside lines of the rectangle.

make the first fold

The best way to make sure your cards align perfectly.. is to make the top fold first.

folding the surprsie card

Then flip the card over. Bring the top fold down and align with the bottom part of the picture. Make a neat crease. When you open it up, you will find it is folded perfectly on the dotted line. Doing it this way is easier, than if you try and fold along the line.

Now open up and write in the middle parts.

Close again.

Pop in your envelope and post!

I hope you will enjoy these free expandable Christmas cards as much as we do!!!! Remember the Learning Resources website has lots of fantastic ideas for young children to explore, discover and learn from!

Happy holidays!
