Quick Craft Post: Glitter Play Dough

|

We had a twitter party (#creativekids) last week and it reminded me that we need to do MORE play dough and MORE glitter… Also my good friend Anna from The Imagination Tree ALWAYS has play dough “lying around” when we visit and the kids simply love it! So this week we made some more and we combined the glitter and the play dough in the hope to keep the glitter mess at bay.

Perfect for some “Seasonal Play Dough” sessions.. I feel all sparkly and Christmassy already!

And yes.. this isn’t “really” a craft post as such… as surely this will become a staple in our house like drawing – we always have paper and pens easily accessible to both children. And will try and do the same with play dough from now on (with a bit of salt dough every so often for longevity)!

play dough recipe

(and yes, the purple you can see in the photo is ALL GLITTER!)

This time we used (we have made play dough before, but wanted to try out different proportions – to be honest, both recipes seem to work just fine!)

  • 2 cups of flour
  • 2 cups of water
  • 3/4 cup of salt
  • 2 tblsp oil
  • 1 tblsp cream tartar (Anna tells me you can replace this with a few drops of lemon, bet that smells lovely too!!!)
  • Red food colouring
  • glitter

1) Put it all in a pan at low heat

2) Keep stirring…

3).. until starts going more solid and forms a dough that comes off the bottom of the pan. It shouldn’t feel (too) sticky

Let it cool and play.

If it air dries, the salt will come to the surface. Just reknead it and keep playing…

We used:

  • Glitter (lots)
  • Toothpicks
  • Conkers
  • Cupcake cases
