Process Art Heart Preschool - a wonderful way to explore and have fun with process art. Turn your spaghetti painting and printing making into this wonderful yarn wrapped wall hanging. A perfect Valentines project for kids, or lovely any time of year!

Painting is one of our favourite creative pastimes around here. Artworks accumulate in our studio (Aka the laundry.) To try and save on paper, we often reuse an artwork and paint over the top of previous work. This helps to create textured, colourful layers.

Here is the process we undertook to create our Painted Heart Wall Hanging.

Process Art Heart Wall Hanging – You’ll need:

  • Dried spaghetti
  • Paper
  • Paint (we used acrylics)
  • A stick
  • Yarn
  • Heavy card (like an old box)
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Decorative embellishments

Process Art Heart Wall Hanging – What we did:

Spaghetti Painting process art

We created our first painting using spaghetti paintbrushes! Simply grab a handful of dried spaghetti and wrap a rubber band about 2cms from the top.

Boil some  water and dip your spaghetti into the water to soften the ends of your “paintbrush.”

Squirt some paint onto a tray and let the kids swirl their spaghetti onto the paper. Set this artwork aside to dry.

A few days later, we painted over the top of this artwork with our rolling pins wrapped in yarn.

Exploring textures in Art

You’ll be left with a variety of colourful artworks.

We painted our hanging stick and then wrapped it in yarn and glued on some pom poms and feathers.

Draw a love heart onto some heavy card. (We used a nappy box.) Cut your artworks into strips. (Ours were about 1cm in width.) Layer your strips across the heart. You may like to overlap the strips. Glue the strips down. Once covered, flip the cardboard heart over and trim any excess away.

Use a hole punch to punch a hole on each side of the heart. Thread some yarn through and secure with tape.  Hang heart from stick. Done!
