Kids Crafts: 4 Seasons – Autumn

4 seasons scene

Welcome back to Kids Get Crafty and our Four Seasons. As you may know I have been working our the 4 Seasons with Red Ted since January. At the time I cut out 4 identical trees and then every 3months or so we made a new seasonal picture – using bubble wrap and finger prints: our winter scene, our spring scene, our summer scene and now, finally, our autumn scene.

I am so excited to finally see all four of them together. And it has been a really wonderful way to discuss the changes in the seasons with Red Ted this year. I think he has really noticed things around him!

The Book

Hodge the HedgehogHodge the Hedgehog, by Amy Sparks & Illustrator Benji Davies. A very cute cute book about a hedgehog who doesn’t want to share… Will Hodge learn…? Really useful for us at the moment, as Pip Squeak is right in the middle or learning to share. We love the illustrations and it has a nice verse.  Pip Squeak adores it. And loves saying “share share” over and over again (whilst rubbing her tummy?! I am guessing that the sign language that nursery uses must have a similar movement for sharing – we use a similar circular movement on our chest for saying “sorry”). Anyway. Cute book.

The Craft

As you know, the theme for our 4 seasons has been “bubble wrap” and “fingerprints”. So this time the bubble wrap was used to make beautiful Autumn Leaves both in the tree and on the ground. And with our fingerprints we made hedgehogs!

Materials: Paper, black paper (for tree, but you can paint one), glue (for tree), paint, fingers & a black pen

Red Ted painted the grass and sky, he painted two of these. We then let it dry and the next day added the tree and bubble wrap.

I let Red Ted and Pip Squeak do lots of “free painting” too. So they got the best of both worlds … taking part in a “structured” project and then creating their own pictures!

One of our little hedgehog went a little crazy with rather  large spike. Ouch! I painted the eyes, but Red Ted did the rest…

Look at the trees in the park the next day, Red Ted said: “Mummy! We forgot the green leaves! Silly Mummy.” Ah yes, our trees are not ALL autumnal and many are green and yellow and orange all at once.

And here they are all together!

I love them!

Red Ted: Aged 3.75years

Pip Squeak: Almost 2yrs
