Fairy (Matchbox) Postbox & Free Printable Envelopes

| January 11, 2014 | 9 Comments

Some of you may know that we have had some Pixies visiting this Christmas. They arrived through our wonderfully pretty Magic Fairy Door at the beginning of December and kept us company right until 3 Kings Day! At this point our Pixies had to go home again. The kids of course, were sad to see them go, so we decided to make a Fairy Postbox for them. This way we can write them letters and cards throughout the year and maybe even send a letter to the Toothfairy too!!! Oooh!

Fairy Postbox and Envelop Printable

The Fairy Postbox is quick and easy to make – but it is also great for encouraging your kids to write (Pip Squeak has been eagerly writing ‘C’s and ‘S’s the initials of our pixies) and developing their imagination (the kids have been discussing what the Pixies may be up to at the moment and ask them questions). Cutting out the little envelopes also develops their fine motor skills (can you believe that Pip Squeak aged 4 cut out 4 herself? Of course, they won’t perfect, but they were perfect for sending to fairies!).

Fairy Postbox Materials:

  • 1 Matchbox
  • Red Paint
  • Paper
  • Black permanent marker
  • Glue stick
  • Stanley knife

Fair Postbox How To:

Dolls' Postbox Craft

1) We painted our match box red. We took the inside out and painted that too.

2) Once dry, added collection information on a white piece of a paper and glued that on.

3) Used the black marker pen for outlines.

4) Use the stanley knife (mum only of course!) to carefully cutout the Fairy Postbox “slot” – yes this was fiddly, but we got there in the end.

I then created a little Fairy Letter Printable (thanks Kids Chaos for help with the printable!) – you can just cut and fold them.. and then add a little sticker to stick it “shut”. No gluing needed!!

You can use this printable to write from the Fairies TO your children, or use it for your children to write to the fairies (however due to size, your kids will be able to write less….
