Hug a Book Goat Craft – Supplies needed

how to make a goat bookmark

We love a bookmark craft, as the supplies needed to make, are pretty basic!!

  • Paper in desired colors (you can see here, we painted some white paper grey.. so if you don’t have the right colours, a lick of paint can be fun too!)
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Printable if using our templates but as mentioned you don’t need to use them, but you can create your own goat features, giving your goat that unique personality! NOTE: the template is quite big – to make it easier for cutting. If you would like a slightly smaller bookmark, simply adjust your pinter setting to 75% or similar!

You can grab the basic template for free in my Gumroad store (add $0 at checkout, please don’t tip, as Gumroad is dreadful, but Buy Me a Coffee is a great alternative) OR you can get classroom ready (or library ready) worksheets for a small amount in my Teacher’s Pay Teacher’s store! These are always super popular with kids for more independent working!

How to make a Hug a Book Goat Bookmark

Prepare your shapes

As mentioned above, if you do not have paper in the desired colours, you can work with printer paper and paint it first! Which makes for an additional fun step in crafting! Just let it dry fully/ flatten it under some books before getting crafty!

Now prepare your shapes you will need:

  • One long bookmark shaped rectangle in Goat Body Color
  • One rounded square/ rectangle that fits the bookmark to make the Goat HEAD
  • Two ears
  • A “cloud” shaped tuffed and goaty (black)
  • Some white eyes & rosy cheeks
  • Some horns
  • Small rectangle legs and small rectangle hooves (with a triangle cut into it), you will need 4 of each
  • A small body part

Assemble your legs:

Glue your leg parts together.

Alternatively, you can always draw hooves with a black marker pen onto the bottom of your leg.

Assmeble your goat face:

assemble the goat
  • Glue on the eyes
  • Glue on the cheeks
  • Add the goaty and tuffed
  • Add the ears
  • Add the horns

With a pen then draw on the extra details – the pupils of the eyes, a nose and mouth and decorate the horns.

Assemble the goat features and add extra details

Add the Hug a Book legs

Once the head is finished, it is time to add the front legs. We add these now, as these are the legs that will “hug” your book!

Final Goat Assembly

Time for the final bookmark assembly!

NOTE: you may need to trim the long body rectangle a little to fit the head perfectly/ neatly!

glue the head to the rectangle

Glue the head to thebody – be sure NOT to glue the legs down – these need to remain loose.

Then add the finishing touches to your goat – the soft brown belly and the hind legs!

Your Goat Bookmark is finished! How fun is this?
