Welcome to this “Paper Quilling How To”, brought to you by the lovely Honey from Honeys Quilling. I first met Honey few months ago when I joined a collaborative ebook prokect – Make It Easy. Honey really has a fabulous passoin for Paper Quilling – a craft that I haven’t had a go since my teens… I think I never really “saw the point of it” until I saw Honey’s blog and post for Make It Easy… there are so many wonderfully pretty things you can make, including lovely note cards in the Make It Easy and today’s How To: Make Paper Quilled Daisy Earrings! I reckon these would also look lovely as a hair slide for Pip Squeak.

This is amazing. And, thank you so much for the step by step tutorial. I have always been intrigued by paper quilling but never quite got down to doing it. It somehow felt tough or something that’s meant for very deft fingers.
Your tutorial is very helpful. 🙂
Red Ted Art says
Oooh Rashmie, I do hope you have a go! It really is easier than you think – I remember it from childhood and MUST give it another go myself!

I have never tried quilling although I probably did as a child but didn’t realise that it had a name. I love these flowers and I am going to try and make some for my wedding either as favours or decoration somewhere.

Honey says:
Hi There are MANY brands of sealants, topcoats, varnishes, etc. in craft stores. Most of these will work for paper quilling to make it stiff, shiny, more durable, and water resistant. just take a trip to your local craft store and see what they have! Some will be quite liquid and some will be more stiff. One product that I use is PPA. It stands for “perfect paper adhesive” and is used a as a glue AND as a sealant/top coat. I sell it in my quilling supply shop: http://www.honeysquilling.com/products-page/quilling-tools/perfect-paper-adhesive-matte/
In addition, just make sure that the sealant you use is okay for paper. Some are specially made for fabric, some are for general use (which would be fine for paper), some are only for paints, etc. I use a little paintbrush to apply the sealant to my paper quilled jewelry. I do several layers to make sure it is all covered and is as water resistant as possible.

In the old days (I’ve been quilling for over 50 years) we used regular old Elmer’s glue as a topcoat and many quillests still use it today. The big secret to using a topcoat is to do very thin coats allowing them to dry between applications.

Oh goodness, I don’t know! Do places like Amazon deliver to Dubai? Failing that, you could make your own? Cutting strips of paper? Sorry not to help more!
