Would you like a Banana?
Needless to say, we love a good “story and craft”, session, so do check out the Would You Like A Banana? Story book first! It is so darn cute!
How to make your Yarn Wrapped Fruit

Either draw a rough outline of the fruit (banana!!) you would like to make. OR grab the free templates shared above, print, cut and glue the template to a piece of cardboard or an old cereal box and cut out.

Have fun with paints. Get the kids to paint the cardboard in the desired fruity shapes. The bananas are obviously great in yellow, with a little brown. Apples can be red and greens or a mixture of both, pright yellow pineapples and watermelons are lots of fun to paint too!
You can see here that we also had fun exploring print making with bubble wrap! What else do you have to hand that you could print with?
Once fully painted, leave to dry.

Tape a piece of wool or yarn to the back (or wrap it onces and tie), then enjoy the yarn wrapping experience. Wind around, then tape to secure at the back again. With super “round” fruit, you may find it helpful to cut some small notches into the side of the card to help secure the yarn and so that it doesn’t slide off!
Stick on your homemade googly eyes. And finished!
Why not try making other fruit? What’s your favourite?
Aren’t they wonderful! Don’t forget to follow Colourful Minds on Instagram and Eventbrite!
