Today, we kick of the Valentines Gifts section of the 31 Days of Love and Kelly from Domestic Goddesque shares her cool Candy Cane Roses which make a fabulous Valentines Treat too!
I tried recently to shape candy canes after reading The Artful Parent’s post on bending candy canes. It may have been me misjudging the temperature in the Aga but I ended up with a bit of a craft fail.
As I was pulling the very flat candy cane shapes from the tray liner (got to love bake-o-glide: they didn’t stick at all) I realised that if I could bear the heat on my hands, I could shape the flat candy into pretty rose shapes. Just roll it up and squidge it a little. You have to work fast because the candy hardens quickly- although you can return to the heat for about 30 seconds if you need a little softening mid-way but not too long or it will lose it’s shape.
Wouldn’t these Candy Cane Roses make the cutest Valentine Gift?

If you haven’t used up all your candy canes, you could also make some Candy Cane Horses for Chinese New Year: all you need is a few scraps of felt.

Kelly is the face behind the vintage silhouette at Domestic Goddesque, is part of The Motherhood, and is Contributing Editor at BritMums. She has recently moved beyond the fringes of Greater London to the Kent countryside (though still within eyeline of the M25) and has added a few chickens to the family menagerie. Her day is spent chauffeuring children, learning how to cook with an Aga and encouraging the hens to lay eggs and trying not confuse the three. She is mother to two absurdly photogenic girls, wife to her beloved DH and master to the Wonder Hound. She drinks a lot of coffee and spends time on social media to make up for the fact that she doesn’t get out much. You can find Domestic Goddesque on Twitter, Facebook, Google +, Pinterest and Instagram. Do stop by and say hello!
