Easy Rocking Paper Plate Sheep Craft for at home or in the classroom. A super fun little Spring Craft or Easter Craft for Preschool!
First made in 2015

The little Paper Plate sheep are so easy to make and the kids will LOVE having a go! This little sheep of course is a perfect Spring craft for Preschoolers.

But as 2015 is the Year of the Sheep, you could make this in conjunction with Chinese New Year too! Well why not… it is SUCH a cute little rocking sheep!

We have since also made a rocking paper plate bunny rabbit (seriously adorable too)! And I just KNOW you will love this collection of Cute and Easy Sheep DIYs as well!! We have lots more adorable Paper Plate Easter Crafts for you as well!

To make your Paper Plate Rocking Sheep you will need:

You really need some very simple crafting materials for this cute craft!

Paper Plate Animals Sheep
  • A paper plate
  • Scraps of black construction paper or black card
  • Some cotton balls or shredded paper
  • Glue
  • Googly eyes
  • Pens for decorating (optional)
  • A pair of scissors for cutting the little sheep features!

We also had a go in Pip Squeak’s Reception class (4-5yrs olds) and to make the craft more eco friendly and thrifty we used shredded paper instead of the cotton wool as shown in the image above!

To make your Paper Plate Rocking Sheep you will need:

The sheep features do not require a template and are great opportunity to discuss some shapes! All you need is an oval or circle for the sheep’s face and some rectangles for the sheep’s legs!

Start off by cutting two black legs and one black head. If working with young kids, cut these out for them. Older kids can manage by themselves.

Paper Plate Sheep - Rocking Sheep Craft

Fold your paper plate in half and glue on your legs and sheep’s head!

Cotton Wool Sheep on a Paper Plate Craft

Squirt lots of glue on your plate and then add your cotton wool balls to your paper plate sheep. You can use shredded paper to make your sheep too! Both these options are super tactile and make it for a great sensory craft for your tots and pupils!

Now add a sheep eyes. We used to love googly eyes, but I think a paper eye cut (opportunity for circle) works great too and is more eco friendly! We also added a little mouth, but you can’t see it so well on the photos. You could add little black sheep’s ears too if you wish!

Pip Squeak then coloured in the rim of the paper plate to represent grass and also added some of her flower and bug stickers as cute little details. Isn’t this a lucky little lamb to be on a gorgeous spring field.

And your rocking paper plate sheep is finished!! Ta da! You CAN add a little glue to the top inside of the rocking sheep, to help secure it a little and prevent it from “opening” up again. I hope you find these instructions helpful and that you agree with me that it is indeed a very easy craft! I do LOVE that these little lambs ROCK!

As mentioned, we also adopted these for the classroom and to make the Rocking Sheep craft super thrifty and eco, we used shredded paper for the bodies instead of cotton wool! The kids still LOVED the craft and the results are adorable!
