These little crochet swing buddies are such a fun little decorations to have at home, office or the car – they make the most adorable bag charms and are simply so fun to make. Free Frankenstein Swing Crochet Pattern

List of all the materials you will need for this project:

Yarn

I use 55% cotton yarn which measures 174 yards (159 meters) for 50 g, weight Sport / 5 ply (12 wpi), Gauge 24 to 30 st is 4 inches (10 cm).

You can use any color you like, but I used:

  • green – head, arms
  • grey – body, legs
  • brown – shoes, swing
  • black – hair, face elements

Notions

  • 3,00 mm (D) hook
  • Safety eyes – 6 X 8 mm would be best
  • Few small coins or rocks for weight
  • needle, stuffing, scissors, etc.

American Crochet Terminology is used throughout!

  • sc – Single crochet
  • ch – Chain
  • ss – Slip stitch
  • hdc – Half double crochet
  • dc – Double crochet
  • BLO – Back loops only in this row
  • Inc – Increase
  • Dec – Decrease
  • IncHDC – Make 2 half double crochet in 1 (Increase hdc)
  • IncDC – Make 2 double crochet in 1 (Increase dc)
  • DecDC – Decrease double crochet
  • 3scin1 – Make 3 single crochet in 1
  • MR – Magic ring
  • FO – Fasten off
  • X3 – Instructions between stars make 3 times
  • R1 – Row 1
  • (12) – 12 is number of stitches after making this row

How crochet an Amigrumi Frankenstein Swing

Start with Frankenstein’s Head (Make 1)

Start with green yarn

R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
R2: * 3scin1, inc, sc * X2 (12)
R3: sc, inc 3, sc 3, inc 3, sc 2 (18)
R4: sc 3, inc, sc, inc, sc 6, inc, sc, inc, sc 3 (22)
R5 – R9: sc around (22)
R10: sc 21, ss (22) FO green yarn

Place the safety eyes now. My eyes are placed between round 6 and 7 of the head with 5 spaces between them. Secure from the inside.

Change to black

R11: sc around (22)
R12: sc 4, dec, sc 3, dec, sc 4, dec, sc 3, dec (18)
STUFF the head lightly
R13: * sc, dec * X6 (12)
R14: dec 6 (6) skip 1, ss and FO

Make Frank’s Amigrumi Body (Make 1)

Swing (Make 1)

Brown yarn

R1: 10 ch (10)
R2: sc 9 on one side of chain, sc 9 on other side (18)

Do not FO yet
make 50 ch on one side of the swing from the point where you finished R2
FO now

Attach the yarn to the other side of the swing
Make 50 ch
FO

Make the Amigurumi’s Leg (Make 2)

Start with brown yarn

R1: 9 sc in MR (9)
R2: sc around (9)
R3: dec 3, sc 2, ss (6) FO brown

Change yarn to grey

R4 – R7: sc around (6)
R8: dec, skip 1, sc, skip 1, ss (3) FO

Arm (Make 2)

Green yarn

R1: ch 10 (10)
R2: dc in 3rd chain from hook, sc, ss 6 (8) FO

We have all the parts we need now.
Let’s sew them together.

Add Frankenstein’s Facial Features

With black strand make a tiny smile between rounds 5
and 6 of the head.
(see the photo for reference)

Also with black make a long line on the left side of the
head.
Divide it with more short lines as seams.
(see the photo for reference)

Make another line of seams on the opposite side of
the head.

Weigh the Body & Stuff

Take small coins or rocks… and place it inside the body. Stuff the rest of the body.

Final Assembly of your Crochet Frankenstein Swing

Sew head to the open part of the body (see the photo for reference).

Sew the swing’s sit to the bottom of the body.

Sew the legs to the body front (see the photos for reference)

Sew the swing’s chain to the side of the head ( near the 8 or 9 round of the head)

Sew the chain on both sides of the head (see the photo for reference).

Sew arm to the body right below the body-head joining… ..Note that the arm is behind the swing chain.

Place the hand around the swing chain and sew it in place (see the photo for reference). Make the opposite arm same way…
