Welcome to the Gift Ideas for Himย craft round up! There are so many crafts and tutorials out there to delight children, girlfriends, mother’s and sisters and yet, it is always hard to find really good craft ideas for him – either the man in your life or your father or a brother! So I thought it was about time to create a round up dedicated to the (grown up) men in our lives. Be it making gifts for Father’s Day (there are crafts for children to help with too), a birthday or Christmas, these ideas should be relevant all year round!! I do hope you like the selection (they are hard to find!!) and that you are inspired to get crafty for him! Enjoy!

Michael says
Did a woman write this? Must be. Fleece iPad holder, suspenders, socks, ties? Are you kidding me? The only thing of any interest to a man, straight or gay, on this list is the iPad fridge magnets. This is a list of things WOMEN would like to get for me, not what a man would want.
Obviously the kid stuff is not included, I’ll take a bag of poop with a face drawn on it from my kid! Anything they touch and give is cool.
But ladies; come ON!
How about DIY coupons for you to wash his car in Daisy Duke shorts, no bra and a tank top?
How about a beer making kit? Then you can DIY yourselves to drink.
How about YOU fix the toilet, now that’s some DIY!
Guys don’t like this cutesy stuff. Get us a compound miter saw, Halo 4, new 20″ rims for the mini-van, an iPhone charger for the car, home made pizza instead of takeout.
Let’s face it, you have to go out to Michael’s to buy all of the material to make this stuff, why not buy him a model tank or a shadow box for his Warren Zevon t-shirt?
Red Ted Art says
Meow!!!!
But thanks for taking the time to leave a response – now all those lovely ladies visiting will have some great ideas straight from the horses mouth!
jackie@happyhooligans says
Hmmmm, I have to wonder why a big manly-man like Michael is reading women’s crafty blogs. Kinda makes me wonder if he might in fact quite like the cutesy stuff. Thou doth protest too much, Michael. Sorry, but if you dish it out, ya gotta be able to take it back.
Creative Playhouse says

I love the map coaster idea, but where can I find nice sturdy coasters like that? Help!

I know some people have used tiles from the DIY shop to make coasters. Or buy very plain ones from Home Decor departments/ Charity shops and cover them.
Jill says

Chris says
No. No. and No.
This is what will go through the head of most guys who read this.
There IS one thing that I will pass on to your female readers that nearly any guy would like for his birthday: time alone! It’s not that we don’t love being with our wives/significant others. We do! But we want an entire stretch of time that we know is just for us. Plan a WHOLE day with your friends or your parents or whomever but, get out of the house. Don’t leave any kids for him to watch. Don’t leave a list of things for him to do. Buy him his beverage of choice, a quality cigar, order and pay for a pizza to be delivered and then just leave him alone for a while. If you’re truly interested in HIS happiness and not interested in getting kudos for making some piece of “craft” that he can set somewhere and never use again, you will seriously consider this.
My wife and I have a great relationship. We do stuff together all the time. Long bike rides, shopping the farmer’s market, working in the yard, catching a movie, and every Friday is date night. We share the chores to include dishes, laundry and general cleaning of the house. But when my birthday rolls around, she heads to a girlfriends for a barbecue and a night on the town leaving me alone to just geek out on my movies, games, etc. And I can’t thank her enough for it.
Red Ted Art says
Hi Chris,
Thanks for that – and yes, I think we all agree that we LOVE TIME ON OWN (Mums and Dads!) and that indeed is a special gift. This list however is about gives you can make for someone, a slightly different topic!!
Maggy
Tiny Pinky says
Uhh, save yourself the trouble ladies. Men do not appreciate handcrafted unless its professionally done by handcrafters or their kids.
If you’re neither, its better to stick with the $50 gift card to best buy.
Red Ted Art says
Lucky I included some of the kid’s crafts above then.. phew.
Tiny Pinky says
Heh heh, yep! I’ve seen the roughest toughest daddies enjoy the smallest scribble their 9 month old put on a piece of paper. We personally love the idea of making handprints on pottery for toddlers and babies. That way, the father can have a keepsake of that precious time, and get to drink coffee looking at his wee one’s finger prints ๐
Rachel says
Do you have an English translation of the Simple Scarf for Men pattern?
Mackenzie says
The magnet idea with angry birds and the clock was awesome!
Margot says
Lots of lovely ideas. I think we will try to make one of the coasters. Thanks for sharing ๐
