Easy Origami Goat

| | | |

We had a super lovely Origami Reindeer Craft a few years ago.. and it is so simple and so fun, we thought we would revisit for the Year of the Goat and have a go at making a super simple Origami Goat Face for preschoolers to have a go at. This is a lovely goat craft to make all year round, but especially fun for Chinese New Year and the Year of the Goat! This is a great little Origami for Beginners Project.

Supplies needed:

basic supplies needed to make an origami goat

As with many of our paper crafts, the supplies needed for this goat origami project are simple – you pretty much only need paper – though we did use scissors, pens and a glue stick too to add the fun goat features. As we used brown paper for this goat, you could even recycle some paper packaging paper, and use printer paper and black pens to add the features! I HAVE created a full template for you, however you can easily make this goat on your own too!

  • Square paper for basic goat (we used 5 x 5 inches – approx 13cm x 13cm – but any size will do)
  • White and black paper (or black pens) for features
  • Black pen
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick

You can get the printable worksheets and templates in my teacher’s pay teachers store for less than the price of a coffee. This really helps support the upkeep of this website and supports me in continuing to provide free resources! You do not need this worksheet to make this craft! But you can have lots of fun creating your own goat features too!

How to make an Origami Goat Face for Chinese New Year (step by step photos)

Make your basic origami face shape

Grab a square piece of paper – 5 inches x 5 inches is nice, but you can use any size (if you cut your own shapes.. if you are using our template, use the square on the template, which should print out roughly 5 x 5 depending on your pinter settings..)

Turn the square to make a diamond and fold down the top half of the diamond to make a triangle.

Now fold up the sides – you will have a point bit at the bottom, which later will be the goat’s chin.

Once the flaps have been folded up, take the top part and fold back down again – making a rough parallel line with the top of your origami.

flip the goat face over

Flip your origami over and it should look something like the above image.

Cut your goat features

You will need the following features to turn your basic origami animal face into a goat:

  • 2 long horns (we will fold those into a curve later, or you can cut two curved horns as per our goat hand puppet)
  • 2 eyes (and eye brows if you wish)
  • 1 nose
  • A quiff/ hair piece
  • A beard (cut a triangle and then cut some beard strands into it)
start the goat face assembly

Now assemble your goat face and glue all your pieces in place.

You will need to fold the horns to shape them.

fold the horns

Take the horn shape and place it straight infront of you. Take the tip, and fold down and side ways to create a kind of right angle.

Then fold the tip at a right angle again. This should give you the basic horn shape.

glue beard and horns in place

Glue the horn and beard into place.

Here is your finished goat with the horns just outlined so you can see them better against the white back drop:
