Handprint Alphabet – I is for Impala
This we decided to make an “I for Impala” in our Handprint Alphabet series. Funny how we came back from holiday and Red Ted was eager to have another handprint session go…. he really is loving doing these. We discussed what different things start with I before we settled in “Impala”. I showed him a picture on the internet and he was smitten… This time I was able to “throw in” a little colour theory as we mixed our own tan/ brown.
Oh, so our Impala is rather deer like.. but then they are of the same family and Red Ted did manage the iconic Impala horns…
We only have primary colours, green, black and white at home. So we had to mix our own tan/ brown colour. It was great to be able to discuss this with Red Ted. To make brown, in essence you mix all your primary colours – red, blue and yellow. Blue and red can dominate colour mixing, as their pigment is stronger. So it is best to start with a good amount of yellow and then gradually add some red and blue. We probably had approximately 6 parts yellow, 2-3 parts red, 2 parts blue and then added 1-2 parts white to lighten it.
Red Ted’s (4yrs) Handprint Impalas. We will be practicing our writing again later and then hang one up downstairs and one in Red Ted’s bedroom.
We only did one with Pip Squeak, as ahem, she was napping when Red Ted did his and we didn’t leave her much paint. She was happy enough though and loved using BIG googly eyes (whilst Red Ted, did the little ones).
