FYI – this is NOT a sponsored post.. as Sky kids did not pay me to post this. The Best Makers Ever! series is a collaboration with the lovely Arty Crafty Kids. We each delivered 10 projects to provide you with some great variety!
The aim of the Best Makes Ever! series was to bring easy, do-able crafts for kids of all ages that use everyday materials! Nothing too fancy.. some basic stationary/ craft materials, some recycling and off you go to make these fabulous set of every day crafts! There is a lovely mixture of “art” and “craft”… and many of the crafts can be played with or used in some other way (e.g. some lovely photo frames to gift to mum on Mother’s Day maybe?!).
All of the projects aim to teach children some basic arts and crafts skills and projects ideas, which they can then take and customise further themselves!
And today, I get the opportunity to showcase one of these crafts our – super fun and easy Paper Parrot Finger Puppets with you (you can watch the video embedded below for the Pirate Puppet.. or hop over here for step by step Pirate Puppet instructions)! How to make paper Parrot Finger Puppets
As mentioned, you have this fabulous “show case” video you can watch on Sky Kids’ YouTube channel.. or you can give the written instruction a quick once over first. Then settle down to watch the video “properly” with your kids!
Step by Step Instructions for the Parrot Puppet
Make the basic Finger Puppet Shape
Begin by making the basic finger puppet shape to fit your child’s fingers “perfectly”.
Take a piece of paper using a colour of your choice. Don’t have the colour paper you want.. use white paper and colour it in with pencils or crayons!
Wrap around your finger to make a simple measurement.
Crease the paper a little where it fits around your finger onces, and also at the top of your finger – leave a space for folding at the top of the paper when cutting.
Cut out a rectangle along these creases. If in doubt, cut a little bigger, you can always trim it later!
Once your basic shape is cut. Roll around the finger again for size and glue in place.
Fold over the “top” of the finger puppet head and glue in place.
For the parrot puppet we also folded down the corners a little to “shape” the head (whilst the pirate finger puppet‘s heads remain “square”).
Cut our paper parrot features
You now need to create some parrot featurs. You need a beak and some feathers.
Draw a little beak and cut out.
For the feathers, we cut a bunch of feathers out the same size.
Glue them together and them trimmed them a little so they fit the parrot better!
Assemble the paper parrot
Here you can see all the parrot’s features – a beak, two wings, a tuffed of feathers for the top of the head and some googly eyes. Of course you can just draw some eyes or cut out some “googly” eyes from paper scraps too.
Glue all in place….
….ta-daaaa. Your Papper Parrot Finger Puppet is finished!!! Isn’t he adorable?
Now what other pirate’s pets could you make? Maybe a monkey? Or make the ship’s crew:
…all you need is our basic pirate finger puppet pattern! So cute and easy!
