Kids Crafts: Walnut Crafts & Link Up Party

Aha. Walnut Babies? But didn’t I do a post about this a few days ago.. yes yes yes! I did! But we are very busy here in Red Ted HQ and we had an “extra craft” on Saturday (i.e. Walnut Babies) and ANOTHER extra craft on Monday (The Christmas Cards). And I am afraid we are busy having Advent Calendar fun.. so I hope you don’t mind, if you just “revisit” the Walnut Babies from a few days ago… I would normally have posted them today. If that make sense…. And I “have” to post today, so that you can share your crafts on the linky…
What have you been making?
What do you think? Aren’t they cute? Click on Walnut Babies to see how we made them.

Hello, I am linking up for the second week. I am going to be posting your button – just having some tech issues
Ah that is nice of you!! Lovely to have you on board. Don’t worry about the badge, though of course it is nice if you do manage it!
My kids are going to love me so much more now that I have found your site. This is such a great place to come for ideas. Perfect! If I manage to get them to do some Christmas baking I would love to join in here

Ah Laura – was so lovely to meet you yesterday! And so pleased you like Red Ted Art! And yes yes yes! Come and link up any cookies you make. Love your site and will be turning to you for culinary inspiration for sure!
oh my,these are so sweet. Would love to make them but give me a clue about cracking those walnuts into halves. When I do, they are smashed into tiny pieces ?!
The main tip is here http://www.redtedart.com/2011/12/03/kids-crafts-traditional-walnut-babies/ which is to insert a knife at the bottom end of the walnut and gently tap it! I managed to open all of my first batch like this… BUT found it harder with my 2nd (though still ended up with about half opened nicely). So I guess it is a little bit of luck and I think the fresher the nut, the harder!
Love all of these! I would also love tips on how to crack walnuts neatly into halves…
Maryanne –
