Valentine's Day Kids Activities

31 Days of Love

Welcome back to 31 Days of Love – a series of “lovely” crafts, bakes and activities to do with kids this Valentine’s Day. We have had Valentine’s Cards and Valentines Gifts that Kids can Make, had some delicious Valentines Treats and today we have Emma from Science Sparks sharing a fun Valentine’s Science Activity!

Hello, I’m Emma from Science Sparks and I’m very excited to be guest posting on Red Ted Art today.

Science Sparks is a blog full of fun and easy science based activities for young children, so please come and take a look around if you haven’t already.

This fizzing heart is great fun even for very small children.

Valentine’s Day Activity: Sience Ingredients

  • Water
  • Bicarbonate of soda/baking soda
  • Vinegar
  • Food colouring
  • Heart cookie cutter
  • Glitter (optional)

Valentine’s Day Activity: Science Method

Add a little water to some bicarbonate of soda. I used a whole packet of bicarbonate of soda adding the water slowly until it became a thick paste.

Add a few drops of food colouring and mix well.

Place the mixture inside the heart cookie cooker and leave to cool in the fridge until solid.

Sprinkle on some glitter for extra fun. Then using your pipette, add vinegar very slowly and watch the heart fizzes and dissolves.

If you like the heart why not try one of our other Valentine Science Ideas.
