Crochet Coffee Cup Amigurumi

Oooh do I have a super fun crochet book for you to discover today…. I mean, who doesn’t love to accessories. Today’s wonderful crochet fun is from the Crochet Your Own Bag Charms book, as I get to share a fantastic Latte Crochet Pattern (or Coffee Crochet Pattern..). Crocheting your own adorable Amigurumi Bag Charms is the hot thing this season.

Bag Charms Crochet Book

If you love to crochet and you have explored all the crochet patterns here on Red Ted Art before, then you will (hopefully!!) be very familiar with Lee Satori and her amazing work. You will know her as Coco Crochet Lee on Instagram and are likely to have come across her crochet books before. As she has written MANY!!!

Today’s crochet book, as already mentioned, is the wonderful Crochet Your Own Bag Charms book. A booked packed with 30 adorable projects to give a go. There really is something for everyone, from the cutest little Amigurumi Mushroom, to fun pizza slices and cutest of cute koalas. Combines these with beads, pom poms and tassles for that perfect bag charm!

As with most amigurumis, not only are these projects super cute, but they tend to work up fairly quickly – maybe in a couple of hours, depending on your crochet skills. But a great way to get a cute project made and finished in one sitting.

The book will take you through all the key crochet stitches (with step photos), but it will also teach you some crochet hacks (e.g. the invisible decrease) and really hone your crochet skills. Try out today’s sample pattern the Latte Love Bag Charm and get a taste for this great book.

Latte Love

The drink that fuels crocheters, coffee is one of the best ways to start the day! This little travel cup is the perfect reminder to stop and enjoy your favorite brew while you stitch the day away.

Supplies

• Worsted weight (#4 medium) – Shown here: Lion Brand Basic, Stitch Anti-Pilling, 185 yd (170 m), 3½ oz (100 g), 100% acrylic: 1 ball each 125 Truffle (A), 100 White (B), and 122 Hazelnut (C).
• Hook – US size C/2 (2.75 mm) crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Scissors
• Polyester stuffing
• Scrap black embroidery thread (for embroidering facial features)
• Locking stitch markers
• One pair safety eyes, 6 mm diameter

Charm Bling

• Silver lobster claw keychain, 1″ (25 mm)
• Silver beadable bar, 3″ (7.5 cm)
• Silver jump rings
• 8 wooden beads
• Black leather tassel, 1½” (38 mm)

Measurements

2½” (6.5 cm) × 3″ (7.5 cm)

Gauge

20 sc × 28 rnds = 4″ (10 cm). Exact gauge is not critical for this piece.

Special Crochet Stitches

• Bpsc (back post single crochet) = Insert hook from back to front then to back again around post of next st, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops.
• inv-dec (invisible single crochet decrease) = Insert hook in FLO of each of next 2 sts, yarn over and draw through both sts, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook—1 st decreased.

Notes

Coffee Cup is worked in rnds in one piece from the lid downward. Yarn color is changed to work lid, cup, and cozy in appropriate colors.

With A, ch 2.

Rnd 1 (RS): Work 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook; join with sl st in first st—8 sc.

Note: Work first st of each rnd in same st as joining sl st.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around; join with sl st in first st—16 sc.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, [2 sc in next st, sc in next st] around; join with sl st in first st—24 sc.
Rnd 4: [Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next st] around; join with sl st in first st—32 sc.
Rnd 5: Ch 1, bpsc in each st around; join with sl st in first st.
Rnd 6: Ch 1, [2 sc in next st, sc in next 15 sts] twice—34 sc.
Rnd 7: Ch 1, [2 sc in next st, sc in next 16 sts] twice—36 sc.
Rnd 8 (rim): Ch 1, working in FLO, [2 sc in next st, sc in next 5 sts] around; join with sl st in first st—42 sc.

TOP OF CUP

Fasten off A. Draw up a loop of B in free BLO of first st of Rnd 7, to work behind sts of Rnd 8.

Rnd 9: Ch 1, working in free BLO of Rnd 7, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first st—36 sc.
Rnds 10–12: Ch 1, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first st.

COZY

Fasten off B. Draw up a loop of C in FLO of first st.

Rnd 13: Ch 1, sl st in each st around; join with sl st in first st.
Rnd 14: Ch 1, working in BLO, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first st.
Rnd 15: Ch 1, [sc in next 5 sts, inv-dec, sc in next 5 sts] 3 times; join with sl st in first st—33 sc.
Rnd 16: Ch 1, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first st.

BOTTOM OF CUP

Fasten off C. Draw up a loop of B in BLO of first st.

Rnd 17: Ch 1, working in BLO, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first st.
Rnd 18: Ch 1, [inv-dec, sc in next 9 sts] 3 times; join with sl st in first st—30 sc.
Rnd 19: Ch 1, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first st.
Rnd 20: Ch 1, [sc in next 4 sts, inv-dec, sc in next 4 sts] around—27 sc.
Rnd 21: Ch 1, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first st.
Rnd 22: Ch 1, bpsc in each st around; join with sl st in first st.

Attach safety eyes between Rnds 14 and 15, about 5 or 6 sts apart.

With black embroidery thread, embroider a straight stitch mouth in the shape of a V between eyes.

Stuff piece.

Rnd 23: Ch 1, [inv-dec, sc in next 7 sts] around; join with sl st in first sc—24 sc.
Rnd 24: [Inv-dec, sc in next st] around—16 sc.
Rnd 25: [Inv-dec] around—8 sc.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Thread tail through remaining 8 sts and pull to close opening. Weave in end securely.

Hanging Loop

With A, leaving a long beg tail, ch 8.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Finishing

Fold Hanging Loop in half and use yarn tails to sew to top of Cup Lid.

Weave in ends.

Using photograph as a guide, add bling to finished piece.
