Wandering Flower Lantern

Imagine you are on a magical journey through the woods or a winding path. Everything is dark, but you have your special lantern to light the way! This lantern is even more special because you made it yourself and avoided throwing out a used container. Let’s gather our materials and get ready to turn an ordinary walk into an extraordinary adventure.

Supplies needed to make your Flower Lanterns

*It’s best if this container has a handle, but if not, you can make one for it.

How to make your container flower lanterns

1. Cut your tissue paper into pieces the size of your palm.

2. Apply a thin layer of glue to the container with a paintbrush and cover it with the tissue paper pieces.

3. Add another thin coat of glue and press on your dried flowers or leaves.

4. Draw some silhouettes on your black paper and cut them out. (I drew mushroom outlines! You can look up pictures of mushrooms to see different types and sizes.) Glue these to your tissue paper–covered container along with your flowers.

5. Add another coat of glue and add one last layer of tissue paper over the entire thing, covering your flowers and silhouettes. Allow that to dry, and add a final coat of glue to seal it all in if you want.

6. Place your fairy lights inside your container and close it.

7. Now, your lantern is ready to accompany you on your walk! If your container did not come with a handle, wrap some twine around the rim and tie it. Then get a 12-inch (30-cm) piece of twine and tie it to the wrapped twine on opposite ends.
