An extract from the fabulous Star Wars Book:
In Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Lyra Erso gives her daughter, Jyn, a kyber crystal necklace right before they are separated. When Lyra puts the necklace around Jyn’s neck, she says, “Trust
the Force.” Jyn continues to wear this necklace as a token of good luck. At a pivotal moment in the film, we see Jyn clutch her kyber crystal pendant, as though she is using the Force to
will the odds in her favor. Now you can make your own kyber crystal necklace, to
remind you to be patient and never lose hope. You might also want to make two necklaces and then give one to a friend or family member with a note that says, “Trust the Force.”
So come on.. let’s have a go at these DIY Faux Crystal Pendants!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED to make these Faux Crystals
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Cutting mat or piece of cardboard
- Sharp craft knife (adults only!)
- Thin hemp cord
- Seed beads (any number or color)
- Hot glue gun
- Black cotton cord or leather cording
TIPS
- Important: Never cut toward yourself yourself with the scissors or a knife.
- Make sure you’re using a regular-size glue stick, not a mini stick. The size of the glue stick will determine the size of your faux crystal. So the bigger the better!
- You can also use the kyber crystal to make a charm or keychain – though keychains go through a bit of a rough time.. and it will last you the longest as a pendant!
Let’s Craft a kyber crystal pendant!
- Using the scissors, cut the glue stick into thirds (each piece should be about 1½ inches long). This will be the basis of your faux crystal diy.
- Hold the glue stick piece at the top and rest the bottom end on a cutting mat or thick piece of cardboard.
- Use the craft knife to carefully slice thin pieces from the sides of the glue stick piece. Turn the glue stick piece as you cut until the entire piece resembles a crystal with faceted sides.
- Flip the glue crystal to the other end and finish slicing the sides.
- Cut a piece of the thin hemp cord 4 inches long, and tie a knot in one end.
- String the seed beads in any pattern you like. Repeat for additional strings.
- Hot-glue the bead strings at the top of the crystal, on the side.
- Cut the black cotton cord or leather cording about 16 inches long. Hot-glue both ends to
opposite sides at the top of the crystal. - Wrap the top of the crystal in the same cord you used for the bead. Glue down the end.

Aren’t these faux crystal pendnats cool? They are the perfect craft to make with tweens and teenagers or at summer camp with Star Wars fans!
