Calling all fans of the TV show Friends! If you LOVE Friends and you want to do some Friends inspired DIY, you HAVE to take a peak at this brilliant Friends Crochet Pattern Book! So fun. To celebrate this amazing crochet book, I have been given permission to share one of the patterns from the book. Today we will be making the Friends Door Frame Tote Bag! Isn’t it fun? The MUST have accessory for any Friends fan! We love free crochet patterns.

First up let’s take a look at this super cute FRIENDS TV Series Crochet Pattern Book:
This really is a VERY comprehensive crochet book for Friends fans. You will find all kinds of adorable makes – as you can see from the front cover, it all begins with some lovely Friends character amigurumi (complete with the famous sofa). But it also contains a number of wearable crochet patterns, hat, apron, socks and home decor.. as well as of course Marcel the monkey and even a Friends Door Mat! Really, this book is PACKED with fantastic ideas, that will get you making all year long!

The front door of Monica’s apartment and the inside walls are a beautiful shade of purple. And on the door is a little yellow frame around the peephole that remains there throughout the series. Monica’s apartment is one of the most iconic sets in the show.
At some point during the years, all five of the other characters have lived there. We’re used to seeing Rachel occupying the room next to Monica’s, and Chandler and Monica end up living together as their relationship blossoms. But what about the other friends? Monica and Ross’s grandmother was the original tenant of the apartment, and Ross stays there with her for a summer to attend dance classes. After their grandmother moves to Florida, Monica moves in, subletting the spare room to Phoebe and then to Rachel (not entirely legally, whoops!), which explains how Monica is able to afford such a spacious apartment. Joey and Chandler even spend a short time in the apartment after they win it by beating the girls in a game of trivia.
There is something so lovely about the combination of that shade of purple and the yellow peephole frame on Monica’s apartment door. It sends all the happy vibes to a Friends fan’s heart. This reusable market bag is perfect to bring along to the store and share your love of Friends with everyone in the cleaning supplies aisle. (Just kidding!). It’s constructed with easy crochet stitches, and you add the peephole frame at the end using a crocheted appliqué

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
- Length and width: 14 in. / 35.5 cm square
- One size only
YARN used in the orginal pattern
- Worsted weight (#4 medium), shown in We Crochet Brava Worsted, 100% premium acrylic (218 yd. / 199 m per 3½ oz. / 100 g skein
- MC – Main Color: #28433 Freesia, 4 skeins
- CC – Contrast Color: #28417 Caution, 2 skeins
Hooks & other accessories
- US I-9 / 5.5 mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge
- Tapestry needle
GAUGE
13 sts and 16 rows = 4 in. / 10 cm in sc Make sure to check your gauge.
Notes:
Tote is constructed in one long panel. Strap is made in one long strip with ends sewn together. The strap is then sewn to the main body of the bag and the bag is joined together on the sides.
The pocket and appliqué frame are crocheted separately, and then joined together before being sewn to the bag.
Turn at the end of each row, but do not ch 1 to begin sc rows.

Friend Crochet Tote – The Door Frame
With MC, held double
Row 1: Ch 47, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn—46 sts.
Row 2: Sc in each st, turn.
Rep Row 2 until the piece measures 28 inches.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Make the Straps
With CC, held double
Row 1: Ch 313, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn—312 sts.
Row 2: Sc in each st, turn.
Row 3: Rep Row 2.
Fasten off. Sew short ends together being careful not to twist the strap. Weave in ends.
Make the Tote Pocket
With MC, held double
Row 1: Ch 23, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn—22 sts.
Row 2: Sc in each st, turn.
Rep Row 2 until the piece measures 9 inches.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Make Applique Frame
TOP AND BOTTOM PIECES (MAKE 2)
With CC, held single
Row 1: Ch 18, dc 4 in 3rd ch from hook, sl st in next 2 sts, sc in next st, dc in next 2 sts, tr
in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, sc in next st, sl st in next 2 sts, dc 4 in next st, sk 1, sl st in last
ch.
Row 2: Ch 1, sl st in each st on the opposite side of starting ch.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
SIDE PIECES (MAKE 2)
With CC, held single
Row 1: Ch 22, dc 4 in 3rd ch from hook, sl st in next 3 sts, sc in next st, dc in next 2 sts, tr in next 4 sts, dc in next 2 sts, sc in next st, sl st in next 3 sts, dc 4 in next st, sk 1, sl st in last ch.
Row 2: Ch 1, sl st in each st on the opposite side of starting ch.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Tote Bag Assembly
- Place the Strap 2 inches in from the edges of the bag. Sew or sl st the Strap in place.
- Fold the bag in half with the Strap right side out and sew the side edges of the bag closed.
- Center the Appliqué Frame pieces on the Pocket and sew them in place.
- Sew the Pocket to the bag between the straps.
