3 Kings Day Craft – Toilet Paper Roll Kings
Let’s make a wonderful set of Kings for Epiphany! I feel that Epiphany and 3 King’s Day is often overlooked. We love to celebrate Christmas for as long as possible and enjoy the 12 Day of Christmas celebrations that ened on January 6th with 3 King’s Day and the Three Wise Men! So, we revisit our favourite kids’ craft material the humble toilet paper roll and have a go at making the three magi – Gaspar (or Caspar), Melchior, and Balthasar!
Of course the toilet paper roll Kings can be made as part of any Fairy Tale Crafting session and you can easily turn them into Toilet Paper Roll queen’s and princesses too! As you will see my little girl wanted some of these as well. Well why not!
UPDATE: We first made this very happy Christmas Craft back in 2013. Say aaaaawwwww!
Supplies needed to mkae your toilet paper roll kings and queens
- 2 Toilet Paper Rolls per character (so you can make a crown too)
- Paints in a variety of skin tones
- Gold paint if you have it, or you can use tin foil or gold paper for the crowns
- Fabric scraps of royal quality
- Googly eyes (optional, these days, I would opt for drawn eyes to make these more eco friendly)
- Wool scraps or cotton wool for beards and hair
- Scissors, brushes, PVA Glue
- Optional: gems or other decorative elements
But use what materials you have to hand – e.g. instead of yarn for hair, you can also make hair from strips of black paper or cotton wool
How to make your three wise men for Epiphany
Paint your toilet paper rolls in desired colours
1) The kids painted – we painted various “king face colours” and some queens.
We also painted 2 loo rolls all golden to later cut down to crowns. As mentioned you could make the crowns from yellow or gold paper too! Or use tin foil for silver.
Sort your fabric scraps and pick your clothes!
2) Whilst the loo rolls were drying, we went to our fabric stash to look for suitable clothes. Red Ted decided he wanted to model his three kings on the three kings from our Nativity playmobil set.
3) Glue on your clothes.
4) Create the hair – we cut strands of wool, and draped it over the loo roll with lots of glue. One of the wise men has a beard and white made from felt and one is bald!
Add faces hair and crowns
5) Finally, we cute the crowns out of the golden loo rolls and glue them on. Once it was all dry the kids added stick gems. Red Ted stuck to the same colour gem all the way round, whilst Pip Squeak opted for “more is more” and used all the colours and shapes possible.
Play!
