Kids Crafts: Mini Present Ornaments (Or Christmas at the Dolls House part 2)

December 21, 2011

Well.. as you know it is Christmas in our dolls’ house too. Last week we made some little Christmas Tree ornaments that doubled up as the dolls’ house *real* tree. We then also made paper chains. Red Ted has been wrapping “things” at nursery and wanted to do “more wrapping” at home. So together we came up with the idea to wrap some matchbox presents for the dolls… We didn’t have any wrapping paper so we made some first! I think these little presents would look GREAT on a Christmas tree OR under a dolls’ Christmas tree… Interestingly, Pip Squeak really took to these again and spent hours stacking the present in the Playmobile fire engine, then on the toy campervan table, then in the dolls house and then just running around with them in the house. A very good result!

Red Ted wishes you all LOTS of presents this Christmas….

These ornaments feature in our new Christmas Ornament Book. 30 of our favourite ornaments brought together in one place. Sorted by age. Each craft is shared on one page – making the perfect worksheet print outs. Lovely to have them all in one place too!

The Book

Harvey Slumfenburger's Christmas PresentHarvey Slumfenburger’s Christmas Present

Now here is a Santa story that is different! Red Ted LOVES LOVES LOVES this book. His humour is just beginning to develope and really does like “silly things”. In this story Father Christmas is returning from delivering all the presents. He and the reindeer are very tired, but there is one present left to deliver! Of course Father Christmas sets out to deliver it, but leave sthe tired reindeer behind. How will he do it ? He get help along the way – from motorcyclists, to flying in hot air balloons to rock climbing. Harvey really does live far away, but he WILL get his present!

The text is reasonably simple and we love the illustrations.

The Craft

Of course you can just use wrapping paper odds and ends, but we decided to make our “own” by using festive stamps. Red Ted really loves “stamping” and he is starting to be able to do it really well (i.e. not wobble it too much or layer several stamps over each other). I emphasise “starting”…. you could also just print of some of these lovely free printables and you should have great paper! Or just draw lots of little things on your paper – like holly berries and leaves or draw your own stars…

Materials: Match boxes, plain or coloured paper, festive stamps and ink pads, scissors, cellotape and ribbon.

1. So easy really: get printing. We had some snowflakes and stars. The stars look lovely and later we coloured some in.

2. Let it dry and then get wrapping. Add your present ribbon and then a contrasting ribbon for hanging (if you are using it as an ornament!). Excuse the smudge fingers.. that is from playing with the ink pads!

This Santa story sounds quite unique. My daughter has really been \’into\’ Santa stories these days and I\’m sure she\’ll LOVE it. I have to get this and include it in her Christmas presents.

And the craft – totally cute. Wrapping up match boxes and stacking them is a lovely, adorable idea. We have stored quite a few match boxes and it\’ll be fun to wrap/decorate them…

My daughter got the book – \”The Little Engine That Could and the Snowy, Blowy Christmas\”, the story is somewhat similar the little engine helps Santa to deliver the presents.
The matchbox presents are so adorable! That gives an idea tiny candy boxes can also be used!
