These little Leaf Turkey Place Cards literally take 5 minutes to make.. less per turkey if you make a whole set of them in one go. We love cute Turkey Crafts for Thanksgiving. HOWEVER… as you use REAL leaves to make these…. they will only last 2-3 days.. as REAL leaves have tendency to curl up as they age. There are two things to consider – make these on the day or the day before you need them (get kids to help make them and keep them busy!!) OR you could use fake shop bough leaves OR you could first cover your leaves in glue and let them dry (or check out any of our other 6 Leaf Preserving Methods..). I made them one dull afternoon, as I had some spare leaves left over from a pinecone turkey craft!!! I think these Leaf Turkey Corks are just adorable. And I don’t mind that they won’t last… especially as they are made from recycled and natural materials! (We have a Pine Cone Turkey version of this one too! So fun. And the leaves are just stunning on that one!)
Leaf Turkey Corks – Materials
- per turkey one cork (we love the “champagne corks” but others are fine too)
- leaves (any! The more colourful the better)
- hot glue gun
- scissors & pen
- OPTIONAL: craft wire and paper for place cards
How to make these Leaf Turkey Corks
Begin by choosing your leaves. You can make your Turkey Corks ALL THE SAME.. or you can give them all a different plumage. Then cut out a beak (see the yellow diamond) – make sure the line of the leave is where the beak’s middle is. Also cut out a red wattle from a red leaf. You are prepped and ready to go.
Heat your hot glue gun.
Add a little glue inside your beak leaf to close it.. then add a little to your cork. Position the red turkey wattle and the leaf in place.
Final touches to your turkey craft – add some little black eyes. And your Leaf Turkey Craft is done… you can of course glue on googly eyes if you wish!
Now.. if you wish to use these darling turkey corks as place cards, you will need to make some little name holders (actually, you can put the name tag between the turkey’s head and the leaves.. saving you one step….. but I like the little wire holders). Get a little craft tape. Twist it into a circle, cut a stem. Make a little hole on the top of your turkey’s head with sharp scissors and insert the place card holder.
Ta-daaaaa! You now have the cutest little Cork Turket Place Card Holder! Aren’t they adorable. This photo was taken 24hrs after the turkey was made.. so it gives you an idea of how quickly your leaves will begin to curl and dry. As mentioned, if you would like to preserve them a little.. we have a whole article on how to preserve leaves – but a quick and easy method is to pva glue them (like a mod podge layer!).
