The Paper DIY Base
Step 1:
Select 2 different shades of craft papers for the round patterns and yellow colored craft paper for the teardrop pattern (flame). Trace the patterns and cut out 8-10 teardrop patterns from the yellow paper and 12-15 round patterns from the other 2 papers.
Step 2:
Take a round cut out and fold it into half.
Step 3:
Fold the piece from the previous step into half again.
Step 4:
Similarly fold all the other round cutouts into half twice.
Assembling the paper diya base and flame
Step 5:
Take any 2 folded round patterns and apply glue along one of the cutouts closed sides. Once you are done gluing all the pieces together glue the last piece with the first piece on their sides.
Step 6:
Join the other folded round cutout with the glued one from side. Keep gluing each cutout one by one.
Step 7:
Take the yellow teardrop cutouts and fold them into half lengthwise.
Step 8:
Glue them side by side along their closed ends. At the end, glue the last piece with the first piece along their sides.
Turning your paper diya into an ornament for Diwali
Step 9:
Prepare a string with needle and tie a knot on its end. Insert 2-3 beads into the string and push them all the way to the knot.
Step 10:
Insert the paper pattern prepared in step 5 into the string through its hole along the center.
Step 11:
Now insert the paper pattern (flame) prepared in step 8 into the string through its hole along the center.
Step 12:
Push the pattern all the way to the previous pattern. Tie a knot 1 or 2 inches apart from the flame and insert beads into the string.
You can add more than 1 paper diya in 1 string.
