Yarn Wrapped Heart Ornament
Today I share a super quick craft post based on our previously shared Yarn Wrapped Apples. We ADORE yarn wrapping.. there are so mant fabulous variations on this simple fine motor skills craft for preschoolers. The lovely Our Homeschool Heaven on instagram had a go at our Yarn Wrapped Apples and then also decided to make some gorgeous Yarn Wrapped Hearts. LOVE the choice of rainbow wool.. so pretty! We love Heart Crafts all year around – I think hearts make great Christams Ornaments but of course are also perfect for Valentines Decorations or even Mother’s Day!
Wrapped Yarn Heart Craft – Materials:
- Cardboard Box
- Yarn in desired colours
- Pens (optional)
- Scissors
TOP TIP: if working with more than one child at a time, or in the classroom or with younger children, make the hearts BIGGER and cut little ridges into the side of the apples to help “catch” the thread!
Wrapped Yarn Heart Craft – How To:
1) As with our Yarn Wrapped Apples, draw the basic heart shapes for the children and cut these out! Older children will be able to cut them themselves.
3) I cut a little snip into one side of the heart to wedge the wool in place and start wrapping your yarn hearts.… then hand over to the kids and wrap wrap wrap. You may need to encourage younger kids to turn the heart as you go round, else you may end up with an apple with a big bulge all in one direction.
4) When finished, we tied the yarn through another yarn loop and knot in place. You can either use this bit of yarn for hanging or tuck into the wrapping to hide.
Such a simple craft and I love how much the kids enjoyed the process of making these! I think the Yarn Heart Craft would make a great classroom activity and look fabulous hanging together as a garland or from the ceiling!
A big thank you again for Our Homeschool Heaven for sharing their Yarn Wrapped Heart photos with us!
