Quick Craft Post: Ice Colour Theory
A little while back on Boy Get Crafty I stumbled across this wonderful “ice colour experiment”. Being a huge fan of arts and crafts, I have taught Red Ted all about how yellow + blue turns into green… (The Englishman once doubted that if you mix blue and yellow play dough it would go green.. of course it did).
But I saw this ice experiment over at The Preschool Experiment blog and LOVED it.. waiting for a day to have a go.
Well, the play challenge at Hands On As We Grow and The Imagination Tree, as well as the topic “ice” at Red Ted’s preschool were just that excuse!
The experiment: freeze red, blue and yellow icecubes (use food colouring).
Then place yellow/ blue, yellow/ red and a blue/ red ones into seperate jars and let defrost.
What happens?
What colours do you end up with? (can you see the green already forming in the yellow/ blue jar?)
The fun bit was “afterwards”. Pip Squeak LOVED the ice. She loved holding it, touching it, melting it onto a big sheet of paper, sticking it back in the jar.. she just adored the whole process! Great fun! An easy activity to keep her busy for ages!
On a different note, isn’t Hands On As We Grow’s “Ice Painting” simply brilliant?

My kids LOVE ice. I never even thought about doing a craft with it. I am going to have to try both the color experiment and the ice painting with my kids.
