This is a wonderful beginner friendly Mini Amigurumi Crochet Pattern. It used basic stitches – and introduces the half double crochet stitch for those moving on from single crochet stitches only.

To Sew or not to Sew – Crochet Pattern Conundrum

This pattern does require a little sewing! BUT as mentioned in some of our patterns before. Though there is an increasing trend for people to try and make “no sew” projects only, we strongly encourage you to embrace sewing as part of your crochet journey. Here is why sewing crochet projects are “good”:

  • Sewing is a life skill – don’t shy away from it!
  • You will find that you can access SO MANY more fantastic (free) crochet patterns, if you are willing to sew. Focusing on “no sew” only, limits what you can crochet.
  • No sew projects of require specialist crochet stitches (e.g. the bobble stitch is popular for making paws, legs and arms) – though it is great to learn these stitches, sometimes, beginners will find it easier to sew instead
  • Sewing on features is a great way to personalise your crochet pattern – often you can play around with the positioning of the legs or ears to create your own unique characters!

Mini Amigurumi Dachshund Crochet – Ideas for uses

This mini dachshund crochet pattern is super cute! There are many ways you can use the pattern:

  1. Make as is (well we do love minis, right) – a great little decoration or toy (though please sew on eyes if using as a toy)
  2. Add to a key chain – an irristible sausage dog charm
  3. Would make and ADORABLE Christmas Tree Dachshund Ornament
  4. Use super plush jarn and turn this into a Dachshund plushie (again, sew on the eyes – as this is safer with using plush yarn)
  5. This mini dachshund would look adorable as part of a crochet mobile
  6. Incorporate the sausage dog in a crochet wreath!

Supplies needed for thie Mini Dachshund Crochet Pattern

As with the majority of the crochet patterns here on Red Ted Art – you can scale the pattern up or down depending on what yarn you have to hand! Just always make sure you use the corresponding hook! If in doubt, generally it is better to go half a hook down in size to avoid loose stitches. We used:

  • DK Yarn (super regular every day yarn from the craft store)
  • 3.5mm Hook
  • Recycled pillow stuffing instead of polyfill
  • 6mm Safety Eyes – though you can sew eyes on too!

If you would like a printable version of this pattern, you can grab it for a very small fee on Ravelry. This is a super cute 3 page printable (print 2 per page, and double side) for eco friendliness!

Let’s crochet a Sausage dog together!

Add a little stuffing to the muzzle before adding the eyes, as the space is “small”. Place eyes between rnds 4 & 5, roughly 3 stitches apart. Rnd 12: (3sc, dec) x3  [12]
Rnd 13: 6dec  [6] Fasten off & seal hole

Attach some dark brown yarn to the head of the dog. Sew the front of the face (rnds 4 & 5) between rnds 2 & 3 of the body. Sew the back of the head (rnds 7 & 8) between rnds 5 & 6 of the body. Sew down the rest of the head, to make sure that it is firmly secured into place.
