DIY Fashion Dolls from Wooden Spoons with Origami Dresses

April 3, 2018

So, if you have been reading Red Ted Art closely recently….. you may have noticed the odd Origami Dress or two or three pop up.. yes.. we made these Easy Origami Dresses a few weeks ago and totally fell in love with them. So we turned them into Pop Up Dress Cards for Mother’s Day and today we have some super duper cute DIY Fashion Dolls From Wooden Spoons with Origami Dresses (teehee what a mouth full). Pip Squeak (8) has been enjoying drawing and sketching “fashion” for weeks now. And I love how this new love for fashion, combined with her love for simple craft stick dolls and my Origami Dresses have turned into this parade of wonderful DIY Fashion Dolls! Aren’t they fun? And isn’t it cute how her crafts are growing up?

When Pip Squeak was around 5.. she did these seriously cute Craft Stick Dollies….. and it feels like now (aged 8) she has graduated on to the next level of wooden dolls… (oh man, watching the video in the craft stick dollies post, is making my heart melt.. what a cutie, even if I am bias).

  • White printer paper for your Doll’s Dresses – for the fashion dolls we found 11cm x 11cm a good size of paper
  • Wooden Spoons (US/ UK)
  • A little tape
  • Pens

You may have to experiment with different pens – we found that some “ran” into the grain of the wooden spoons (e.g. Sharpies tended to run) whilst others worked really well (we used this brand – US / UK)

Pop Over to our DIY Origami Dress tutorial and make a set of Paper Dresses with 11cm x 11cm sheets of paper! Add a small piece of tape to the back of the dress – this will allow you to slide the Wooden Spoon Doll in and out of the dress.

Then come back and watch Pip Squeak’s (8yrs) instructions. Do check out her YouTube Channel too!

Aren’t they easy? And don’t they look adorable?!

Hope you have as much fun with these easy Wooden Spoon Dolls as we have. I love how you can change their outfits all day long!
