Simple Love Bug Valentine Card
Yay. The super simple Valentines Day Card series continues.. with our 3rd in the set of 5 Easy Card Designs – the rather adorable and simple Love Bug Valentine Card!! Love bug crafts are super fun and cute to make, especially with younger kids such as preschoolers.. but I do find older kids love these doo and they make a great craft for a school valentines activity and for class mates!
We made our Love Bug cards using washi tape strips stripes.. mainly because I had a rummage in our craft box and found these cute little heart washi tapes… but you can make it using colour paper or other patterned paper.. or create your own designs! As ALWAYS with our crafts here in Red Ted Art, work with what you have to hand, don’t go out and buy unnecessary supplies. Crafting with kids of all ages should not cost you an arm and a leg and unecessary trips to the dollar store to make purchases should be avoid. You can use stickers, ribbons, glitter, gems and any other embellishments you can find your craft box and that the kiddos will love to use! These love bugs are effectively a collage turned into cute valentine’s day cards!

Paper Bag Love Bug Puppets are super fun and easy to make! I love the use of the pipe cleaners as arms and antennae! So cute. And the pom pom nose is just adorable. You could easily also use scrunched up tissue paper instead of the pom pom (make it more eco friendly) and similarly replace the googly eyes with paper love bug eyes (like we have made in this craft!

- Paper scraps for eyes and antennae
- markers
- Scissors
- Glue stick
How to make simple Love Bug Valentines Cards
As with the majority of our crafts, we have a fabulous video tutorial you can watch (see the video on auto play, or of course you can follow the written instructions!
Love Bug Cards Step By Step Instructions
Begin by sticking some washi tape stripes onto your card – we left the top 1/3 of the card (ish) free for the Love Bug’s face later. Space your washi tape out evenly.
Then trip off the edges.
Cut out two paper circles.
Draw some big eyes onto the paper circles. These heart eyes make great alternatives to googly eyes. They are practically free to make (I used paper scraps) and are better for the environment!
Now using your scissors. Shape the top of the card into a love bug head. If you wish, you can use a pencil first, to outline the bug’s head and cut it then. Depends on how confident you are feeling to cut free hand!
Glue on the Love Bug’s Eys.
Then cut out a large heart from colored paper, as well as two small hearts from red or pink construction paper. Glue these in place as per the photo.
Finally, cut out two small rectangular antennae from paper and stick to your card. I made our paper antennae quite small/ short, as I want the card to still neatly fit in the envelope!
Ta-daaaa. Your super simple love bug Valentine’s Day card is finished! Step back and admire. Can you now think of some fun Valentine’s puns to write in your card?
I hope you like this simple valentine’s day cards and that you give making these a go! I do think they are a fun way to make lots of cards for friends and family. Do share any of your makes on instagram with me!
