Potato Printing Penguin Cards for Preschoolers
We love making homemade cards.. and this time of year, there are two sets of cards my kids are making – CHRISTMAS CARDS for the class friends (check out our Super Simple Christmas Cards to make) as well as THANK YOU cards for family post Christmas! Such a fun and easy paper penguin craft!
Needless to say, we tend to make our Thank You cards AFTER Christmas – I find that period between Christmas and the new year to be the best time! These are the thank you cards we made LAST year. Check out our fun Potato Printing Penguin Cards! I say for “preschoolers”, but my 8 and 10yrs old still enjoyed making them. And we have an extensive collection of Thank You Cards to check out here too!
Potato Printing Cards – Materials

- Cookie Cutters (optional)
- Spoon
- Paint in desired colours
- Card
- Googly eyes & glue (optional)
How to make Potato Printing Penguin Cards
Cut your potato in half – make the cut as straight edges as possible – to allow for easy printing.
Using an oval, round or heart shaped cookie cutter, cut a hole into the potato. This will be your penguin’s tummy.
Dry the potato and apply colour to the main body.
Carefully make your prints. You may get 2-3 prints per “paint loading”. You may also wish to practice first!!!
Let dry fully. Once dry, add a little penguin beak and feet with your finger prints. Again, let dry fully.
Once dried, add googly eyes and any other embellishments such as bows and bow ties.
Your cards are finished and ready for posting!
