Are you experiencing a deep freeze and looking for a fun indoor activity to do this Valentine’s Day season? Then this ice castle project made from lots of recycled materials will surely keep you and your little creators busy while hiding from the bitter cold.

You’ll need some simple materials like a tissue box, paper towel rolls and a whole bunch of creativity. Remember that your castle doesn’t have to be an ice castle, it could be inspired by any number of things such as love and Valentine’s Day, candy, cookies, cupcakes, unicorns, outer space or even cars and trucks.

Gather everything you’re going to need first, it’ll make your crafting experience a lot easier. If you’re you’re making a themed castle be sure to prepare your embellishments like gems, pipe cleaners, stickers etc.

Step 1. If you’re going to make an ice castle you may want to try using some crushed cd to add sparkle and that fractured ice look. Place your cds in a ziplock bag and use a hammer to break up the cds, an adult should do this.

Step 2. Spray paint your tissue box or you could even wrap it like a present with some leftover holiday paper.

Step 3. Wrap your tubes in some cardstock paper to match your painted box. I used different shades of blues for my towers.

Step 4. Glitter your cone cups. Paint them with glue and then generously sprinkle on some glitter.

Step 5. Add some details if you’d like.

Step 6. Start glueing on the towers with hot glue, then glue the cone tops (turrets) on.

Step 7. Glue on windows and a door, add banners and other small details.

Step 8. For the base, cut a piece of foam core board and trace the base of the castle onto the board. Glue on the crushed pieces of cd to the base then place your castle on top!
