A cute and easy activity for Chinese New Year and the Year of the Ox! Download your free Printable Greeting Card and get the kids to draw their own ox. Then have a look at the Chinese writing and pronounciation of “Happy New Year” and “xin nian kuai le” (pronounced shin nee-an kwai le)! A great little learning activity and a fun way to connect with friends and family.
As these Greeting Cards are “blank” – each one will be unique! Draw your Year of the Ox design as detailed or as simple as you want!
Children can also take a look at the Characters that say Happy New Year in Chinese, as well as have a go at the pronunciation:
“xin nian kuai le” pronounced shin nee-an kwai le
To make your Year of the Ox Greeting Card you will need:
- A printer
- White paper or light card stock
Though this designed as a drawing prompt, you can get creative and use this to stick things on too! Maybe make a mini collage or get some Chinese New Year Stickers for the kids.

Once you have downloaded and printed your free Year of the Ox greeting card drawing prompts, get the kids designing and drawing. They can make as many as they like!
Then cut out the outer edge of the cards, fold in half and send to loved ones!
A fun way to stay in touch with people you won’t get to see for a while.
We have more of these simple drawing prompts coming soon – in fact a whole set of the 12 Zodiac Animals (the year has been omitted, so that these can be used any time you are exploring Chinese Zodiac Animals). Maybe the children would like to create “their” animal as a Happy New Year Card?
