How to turn your paper cup into other crafts:

As you can see, we have made it into an origami ball and cup game a number of times (check the links below), but upside down and with the little dent, your paper cup is also a super cute cat! It would also work well as an owl..

Supplies needed for an origami cup (and ball) game:

  • Paper – it doesn’t have to a be perfectly square piece of paper, this is a forgiving origami project! Any type of paper will do, you can even double up on some newspaper
  • If making the ball and cup game – some string, tape and either a little kitchen foil, plastic wrap or scrap paper scrunched up

If you use greas proof paper, then this really will last you a bit longer as an origami drinking cup! But personally, we love making the paper toys out of them! So fun.

Here is a video of how to make the paper cups:

We have a handy video tutorial for you. Which you can also view on Youtube.

If the video isn’t loading properly, you can see it here on Youtube!

Making an Origami Paper Cup step by step tutorial

You can either watch the video tutorial or follow these easy instructions that include our photo steps! You will need to start off with a square of paper.

Fold your square piece of paper along the diagonal to make a triangle.

Neaten the creases and rotate so the long edge runs along the bottom and you have identical corners on either side. With the perfect 90-degree angle at the top of the triangle shape.

Take the far right corner and bring it over to touch the side on the left. As you fold, it should create a PARALLEL line with the bottom edge.

Neaten down the folds!

Repeat with the left corner as in the previous step – again make sure you have a pararrel line.

Neaten down the folds.

Take on of the top flaps and fold down (you can put it into the little pocket that the cross over folds create too, if you wish).

Flip over the origami and fold down the bag side. Make a neat crease.

fold flaps into the cup

Fold it back up and then turn inside the paper cup.

Finished! Your easy origami paper cup is finished!

Hope you found these origami drinking cup instructions easy to follow. Now to the next bit…

Paper Cup & Ball Game :

Now you have made your paper cup, it is time to turn it into a little paper toy!

1) To finish your paper cup and ball game –  make the ball (this is not part of the video).

2) Get  a piece of string and some tin foil. Scrunch up the foil around the string. Making sure the string is secured tightly. Shape until it is nice and round (you can discuss “spheres” at this point).

3) Then make a small hole in the side of your cup, thread through the string, either knot it or tape it down. We found tape better as my kids like to play vigorously.

DONE!

You can now start playing catch the ball! Have lots of fun!
