Top Amigurumi Crochet Books to Delight you and help you learn!
Sooo, I have had the pleasure to look at a number of crochet books IN DETAIL over the last few years.. I have to say, I have loved them all. Else, I wouldn’t want to feature them, right? It has been sooo lovely to share sample projects with you too and see which you enjoy the most. Based on a combination of getting to look at each and every book AND of course seeing which projects you enjoy the most, I wanted to share my top 3 crochet books for beginners and beyond. Please note, it is very hard to pick up crochet JUST from a book and I always recommend watching how to learn crochet videos too.

Best Crochet Books to Gift to a new Crocheter

The Big Book of Beginner Amigurumi
Why do I love this one so much?
Ok, firstly, hands up, yes, I am bias… as this is “our book”, so of course I “would say that it is amazing”.. but bear with me.. I do have some great reasons for you to love this book!
High Number of projects: The reason is quite simple – this is the most comprehensive of all the cute critters crochet books out there at the moment, with a whopping 60 projects. Most crochet books come with 20-35 projects only, whilst this has 60! Wowee (to be fair a small handful of these are accessories for your doll, but still.. 60!).
Quick Projects for time poor or market sellers: The projects are all pretty quick makes – so you can make of these in one sitting! Great for getting projects finished.
By Teen for Teens: The projects are written by a teen for a teen. Well teens know best what they “like” and these are all super cute projects. Perfect making in plush yarn too and selling at market stalls.
The Big Book of Beginner Amigurumi is available for pre-order on Amazon and all major bookstores. Pre order it now, send me your order confirmation (info at RedTedArt dot com) and get a free digital pre order gift!

Amigurumi Friends by Jade Gauthier-Boutin
Why did I like this book?
5 Base Shapes you can use for ALL of the Critters: I was impressed with versatility and detail of these projects. Though this book “only” contains 20 ridiculously cute Amigurum Crochet Projects – you can make each of the cute Amigurumi friends in different positions. You get to see 5 “body types” (E.g. standing, sitting, lying down) and all the patterns can be adapted into each of the 5 positions. I think that makes it a really fun approach to these projects.
Detailed photographs: There are a LOT of detailed step photos to help you with the trickier parts of the project too. The step photos are probably what I like best about this book! But they are also supported by some super handy QR code videos. And the “front matter” (ie the bit that shows you how to embroider etc) is also pretty comprehensive and handy!
This is a great book for beginners who want a lot of photos!
Amigurumi Friends is available on Amazon and all good booksellers.

Woobles Crochet Amigurumi for Every Occasion by Justine Tiu
Why do I like this book?
Detailed Step Photos: Again, this book “only” contains 21 Projects, but they are all ridiculously cute and they all have very detailed step by step photos. I think the step by step photos is what makes this book so good for beginners. And if you are familiar with the “Woobles” brand you will know that they really truly are great beginner projects, with lots of extra info! This book is very much “on brand” with what Woobles deliver.
You can “try before you buy” this book – by checking out the fabulous Birthday Dinosour Crochet Pattern here.
The Woobles Amigurumi book is available on amazon. Do also check out there wonderful crochet kits.. they are a little pricey, but they are great especially for complete beginners. Maybe get just the one to get going and then branch out to other kits.

Mama Made Minis – Knotted Lovelys
Why do I like this book?
Firstly.. I had to include this book, simply because, I featured one of its snuggler projects here, and you, my dear readers, have been going mad for it, as well as being purchasing the book! So simply based on visitors and book sales, this book had to be included!!
But here is why I like the book:
- Well to start with, it is of course super cute (obvs!). Each and everyone of the 16 projects in this book is adorable – and there is a great range of animal characters to choose from! In fact, it was SO SO SOOO hard to choose a sample project for (I picked the fox snuggler in the end), as they are all simply adorable.
- The book, has a great “front matter” – the part of the book where you get extra details and instructions to help you be as successful as possible with completing the crochet projects. You will find extra details on how to connect head/ body/ close holes etc – this is NOT shared in this try before you buy pattern – but wanted to highlight that additional information is conatined within the book
- Shows one pattern made in different yarns – so you get an idea for size differences and how well these patterns do work with a variety of yarns. You will also so see that these loveys are adorable in all sizes! It is simply a preference of which you would like to make!

Crochet Flowers Sierra Miral
Why do I like this book?
Firstly, the projects are gorgeous and Sierra’s bouquets are are simply beautiful. The flower projects in this book are so lovely to mix and match and you can make almost all of them as “stand alone potted plants” or as single flower stems to add to a bouquet… so what is not to love.
But the other reason, why I add this wonderful book, is because of YOU, the reader.. I shared a “try before you buy” Lily Crochet Pattern.. and well, you guys LOVE IT! So because of that, I feel this gorgeous book needs a mention!

The Muppets Officiall Crochet Amigurumi Book by Drew Hill
Why do I love this crochet book?
Well.. it has to be nostaligia, right? Because who (in my generation?) doesn’t love love love the muppets. The biggest problem I had with THIS book, was choosing which “Try before you Buy” crochet project to share with you. I confess, I think I got it wrong.. I should have shared Gonzo with you, but instead, I picked Kermit.. but you know what, we DO all love Kermit the Frog, right? So you can check him out here – Kermit the Frog Crochet Pattern.. but better still… get the book!
You can get The Muppets Official Crochet Amigurumi book on Amazon here. ENJOY!

Quirky Amigurumi by Alleshen Hamilton
Why do I like this book?
Again.. not only was this book ridiculously fun to check out – I feel so priviliged to get a peak inside so many fantastic crochet books.. but I am going by YOU and YOUR response to the Try Before you Buy Projects! From this book, I just the super fun Lobster Crochet Pattern (it comes complete with fluffy sweater)… and you guys LOVE HIM!
What I love about ALL the projects in the book, is (like our book) the makes are relatively quick to make – so very satisfying to be able to get them made in one go. You can make them in small (great keychains) in regular yarn or plush. So very versatile and super fun!
You can get Quirky Amigurumi on Amazon here.
Anyway, I hope this selection of Amigurumi Crochet Books have whet your appetite and that you pop one or two into your shopping basket! They really do make FANTASTIC gifts to someone that is starting out on their crochet journey! As mentioned, if you combine them with these fantastic Beginner Crochet Videos, they will be hooked in no time!
