easter chick crochet

This is a super versatile chick crochet pattern as it can be scaled up or down depending on what yarn you use. A 2mm hook and cotton yarn will result in this cute handheld chick softie (if you will the bottom half with rice, it makes it into a nice squshie sensory toy too) or you can scale it up to make it a large chick plushie or even doorstop. Check out the axolotl crochet pattern for reference!

As mentioned, this a FREE Crochet Pattern for Red Ted Art readers.. however, it does mean “staying” on this website whilst you crochet, which also means, you will be served some ads (they are a necessary evil to allow us to run this website free!!). I appreciate that that means you can easily print this pattern off. So we DO have an ad-free version available too:

Ad-Free Chick Crochet Tutorial also available

Crochet Chick Materials

Lemon Chicken Crochet Pattern

You can use any yarn to make this chick crochet plushie. I like Ricorumi Cotton DK but any cotton works. Also if you want use super chunky chenille wool, this makes a wonderful plush toy or doorstop. You will need two colors for the main body and the feet/ beak. Then optional green for the tufts if you want to make a “fruity” Lemon Chick!

Hook: 2mm (Ricorumi cotton dk) 10mm (for chunky chenille)

Safety eyes: 6mm (for the mini) 10/12mm (for the large)

Small handful or rice (makes a nice sensory toy to hold) of 1 kg rice in a bag (if making a doorstop).

Stuffing

This doorstop plushie is approx. 20cm/ 8inch tall as our crochet is a little tighter than normal. The potato pet is 7.5cm/ 3inch. Your versions are likely to be a little bigger. It also depends on the yarn and hooks you use! A very versatile pattern to scale up and down.
