We turned our amigurumi bees into plushies, by using extra chunky chenille yarn! But as mentioned, any yarn goes!

It is a super cute little bumble bee pattern, that only requires you to learn how to do a magic circle and a single crochet stitch. Plus the basic increase and decrease.

Crochet Abbreviations

This pattern uses American terminology throughout

As you can see, it really uses the very basic stitches, not even a slip stitch or half double crochet needed!

Supplies needed to make a crochet bee

Use any thickness of yarn that you wish – just use corresponding crochet hooks. We made our bee as a plushie by using a thick chenille fluffy yarn. A cotton yarn will result in a small bee – perfect for key chains or as pocket buddies. A smaller bee is made by using cotton yarn, a larger bumble bee is made by using chunky yarn! Different yarn weights will result in different sized bees! Just make sure to adjust the mm crochet hook to suit your yarn!

  • Yarn in bee colors – yellow yarn, black yarn and white yarn for wings
  • Embroidery thread or yarn for bee’s mouth
  • Safety eyes
  • Crochet Hook in mm to correspond to chosen yarn
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
  • Toy stuffing

Rnd 8) change colout to yellow, 18sc [18] – if you are using thinner yarn, add eyes and stuff now.
Rnd 9) (1sc, dec)x 6 [12]

Place eyes between rows 2 & 3, 5 stitches apart.
Stuff body.

Rnd 10) 6 dec [6]

Fasten off and seal hole.

Bee Wings (make 2)

Rnd 1) 6sc into mc [6]

Fasten off and leave long tail for sewing.

Sew wings onto the back of the body. Sew them between rounds 5 & 6, around 5-6 stitches apart.

Add a mouth

Sew a straight line directly between the two eyes. Thread the needle 1 stitch below the straight line, directly in the centre of the line. Then pick up the line behind the needle and do a back stitch into the same place where you brought the needle. Pull tight. This will hopefully create a smile!

And you little amigurumi bee is finshed! Wasn’t that easy? You only need to crochet 10 rounds plus the little wings. And done!
