This year is all about MICE!! And easy mouse crafts for kids. So to complete our collection of fun and easy mouse activities, we thought we needed an Easy Paper Mouse Hand Puppet.
These Hand Puppets are a super easy Paper Craft for kids and can be adapted into so many different designs. Learn how to make it once and then let your imagination run wild! This would make a great R is for Rat craft and The Year of the Rat 2020 too!
These fun Paper Mice Hand Puppets also double up nicely as a “Rat Craft” for Chinese New Year and the “year of the rat 2020”!! Particularly love the choice of the black paper if you are making these as paper rats! Who says rats can’t be cute?!

Paper Mouse Hand Puppet – Materials
- per mouse one A4 sheet of paper (you can use any size, really, but those are the dimensions we have here in the UK) – it can be printer paper or construction paper – we chose to make our mice puppets in black.. but any colour will do!
- coloured conrasting paper scraps
- pens
- glue stick
- scissors

How to make a mouse hand puppet – step by step instructions!
Now the photos show yellow paper.. simply because you can SEE what I am doing better than the black paper… but for our paper mice/ paper rats we chose BLACK.
Begin by folding your A4 sheet in paper in 3 length wise. Secure with some glue.
With the seam of your fold on the outside, fold your paper in half. Then fold over flap. Flip and fold over the other. You will end up with a type of “M”. The point in the middle will be your mouth. The long sides of the M, fit you fingers.
For the Mouse Puppets we also tucked in the corner of the face – to shape it a little – see the Mouse Video How To below!
Cut out all your mouse shapes. You will need two big ears with some pink “bits” in the middle, some mouse eyes, a pink mouse nose and some whiskers. We used black, pink and white paper for these.
Now glue them all in place. With the eyes you can experiment – bring them closer together or further apart. Position them up the face for a LONG Mouse face (ie a Rat Face!) or lower down for a shorter mouse face look.. make them look sides wise or cross eyed.. have fun!!
