What is Boo Your Neighbors? And How do you Boo Your Neighbors?
Boo Your Neighbours is a simple “pay it forward” idea, though you can also “run” it as a Secret Santa type community activity. The idea is simple. Pick a Neighbour that you feel needs a little pick me up. Create a Halloween Bucket of treats and leave it on their front door. Add a little note explaining Boo Your Neighbours and the pay it forward concept. The knock.. and run way!
The recipient is encouraged to “pay it forward” and in turn also create a Halloween Gift Pack, do boo another set of neighbours with!
If you are keen for a “return package” (though this isn’t the idea behind it, but understand, that some children may be hopeful…), you can organise yourself with a few neighbours and agree a type of secret Santa and Boo each other in this way too!
What to put in your Boo Your Neighbours Bucket/ Gift
Personally, I love all things crafty and non candy.. but of course Halloween is ALL about the Candy.. so why not add a mix of things? Either create a little craft kit (see some ideas below), add fun things like Halloween Pencils AND of course some sweets.
Great Boo Your Neighbours Ideas
Creating a “Boo Your Neighbours” gift can be as simple or as elaborate as you like. It can contain sweets and candy, or it can contain other Halloween Gifts such as Halloween Pencils and erasers or small toys. Here are some lovely Boo Your Neighbour Ideas from fellow bloggers. I particularly like the “crafty ones”, as you can involve the kids in making these. I also love additions such as “edible eyes” as that encourges baking fun!
Boo Your Neighbours Tea Party
We had a week of fun baking last year.. and had ourselves a Halloween Tea Party/ Spooky Movie Night! As part of this… we had PLENTY of Halloween Goodies to share, so made up some surprise parcels and drop them off with local friends. I think they are perfect as a Boo Your Neighbours gift – just make sure they like homemade treats first!
