How to make a 3d butterfly out of paper step by step

We have made many paper butterflies here on red ted art before!! Time for another “How to make a 3d butterfly out of paper step by step“!! They are such a lovely craft for spring.. and there are some great and easy and intermediate butterflye crafts to make. Our favourite butterfly is the easy paper butterfly based on accordion folds. It is so effective and easy to make. But we also have a great Simple Origami Butterfly for you. Today’s Folded Paper Butterfly Craft hopefully compliments these different crafts. It is based on origami folds, but is more of a craft than origami, as there is some assembly and gluing involved – not typically found in origami. This how ever is still a great introduction to origami for preschoolers or young children but also makes a great paper butterfly craft for kids! 3D Butterfly Folded Paper Craft – Materials

2 Square pieces of paper 10cm x 10cm (any size goes, but we like this size)
Black paper scraps (for the paper butterfly’s body)
glue stick
Scissors

Making your Folded Paper Butterfly Wings

Fold your square paper diagonally, so you end up with a triangle.

Turn the triangle so that the long straight edge at the bottom.

Fold the right hand point up towards the top point. So you create a perpendicular down the centre.

Repeat with the left hand point.

You should now have a smaller square in front of you (turned into a diamond) – this is in fact also the beginning to our origami paper bookmark!!).

Now bring down the top right folded point and align it with the edge of the diamond. Make a neat crease.

Repeat for the left hand side.

You have just completed one butterfly wing! Make two of these!

The Folder Paper Butterfly’s Body

Cut out 2 pieces of black paper for the folded paper butterfly’s body – approximately 1cm wide and 6cm long is nice. But it is a question of preference.

Also a thing black strip of paper (2mm x 10cm). Folded in half and with the tops curled for the paper butterfly’s anntenae.

Assembling your folder Paper Butterfly

Glue the anntenae to the base of the first body piece.

Glue on both wings.

Add glue to the second body piece and place on top of the first part.

Your Folded Paper Butterfly Craft is finished.
