Papier Mache Christmas Ornaments & Decorations

I will always have to start with these little birds, as they are so so sooo darling and so fun to make! The shapes a very simple and just a touch of paint turns them into all the different favourite garden birds.

Paper Clay Cookie Cutter Ornaments
The next time I make a pot of paper clay, I will most definitely make these super cute Paper Clay Tree ornaments. Using cookie cutters as “moulds” is perfect for working with paper clay. Learn more from Kaz Windness Blog and see how easy these are to make.

Fishes make Wishes shows this process again. They make some different cookie cutter shaped paper clay ornaments for the kids to paint at school later!

Christmas paper mache ornaments
Satsuma Designs has some more paper mache ornaments to try out! You have seen a mushroom and a bird already.. but here is also a sweet little paper mache heart to try!

Christmas Ornaments paper mache
Similarly you can make paper mache baubles using balloons, but of course they will be larger. So you may want experiment with waterballoons maybe. These cute christmas ornament bauble is by Daisies And Pie.

Christmas Tree paper mache ornament
Love this Mini Christmas Tree ornament – using paper mache paste to help give it that crinkled tree shape. A clever craft from Buggy and Buddy. We do love tree ornaments!

Rustic Paper Clay Christmas Baubles
I LOVE this rusticness of these paper mache baubles on the New Beauties on the blog website. Like me.. they made their own paper mache clay, which is GREAT! However, they do use Styrofoam balls at the centre. Which I am hoping to persuade you NOT TO DO. For two reasons: this is meant to be a thrifty craft.. not one that requires “new resources” and secondly.. styrofoam.. AVOID THIS at all cost. It is a bad bad bad material for the environment and wholly unnessary. So my alternative? Get old baubles from the thrift shop and use those as your base. Yay!

Paper Mache Birds
Another take on the paper mache birds! I love this blue and white theme. This is a great paper mache bird to make in 2d by Creative in Chicago. Cardboard, newspaper and Homemade Paper Mache Paste.. then all you need to is add a ribbon for hanging!

Paper Clay Santa Ornament DIY
Suzy’s Sitcom makes this adorable paper mache Santa Ornament. You guessed it, all you need is some cardboard and homemade paper clay, and some yarn scraps. Now I say “cardboard”.. Suzy actually uses some foam board that she cut into heart shapes. Pretty please, use cardboard! Because why not? It is free (if you recycle your packaging) and eco friendly! Similarly.. do use our Paper Clay recipe (and resist the lure of white glue) – the glue REALLY isn’t necessary.. and our natural paper clay is biodegradable and practically free to make 🙂

Cute Paper Clay Santas
I love the simplicity of this little Paper Clay Santa Ornament and Christmas Tree ornament (I would probably add some dots with a q-top the Christmas Tree). Homemade paper clay isn’t like regular clay, and a little more fragile to work with. So these simple shapes are perfect! (Once dried, the clay is very hard, just whilst working it is a little more crumbly). Start watching the video below at 1min 38 after you have made your homemade paper clay. Do make “my” paper clay though, as it is cheap and eco friendly. The one in the video uses plastic glues.

Christmas paper mache baubles
My newspaper paper mache baubles are not my neatest work.. we made these on a whim, quickly, as an experiment… I would make them again, but take more time over them – a bit more shaping, some layers of masking tape and then a final layer of newspaper strips! The kids and I still had fun though!

How to make a Paper Mache Sphere
DLTK’s Craft Site nails the “roundness” of making a Christmas Bauble from paper mache as “perfect as possible”.
