Floral Star Lantern Decoration for Ramadan or Eid
As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, we share a lovely Ramadan Craft wit you today. Decorating for Eid is always a special part of the Ramadan holy month. I welcome back the lovely Whimsy Muslim Mama (pop over and check her out) who has created a beautiful nature inspired Ramadan Lantern or Eid Lantern to share with us today. You may remember the precious Milk Carton Ramadan Lanterns she made. Today she is back for more.
Making lantern decorations is such a great craft for this period in the islamic calendar, as not only are they pretty and decorative, but lanterns also allow for some peacefulness and time for reflection. They are also symbolic of the fanous lanterns representing the light guiding the way.
Supplies needed to make this nature Ramadan craft:
- A box to recycle (a small children’s shoe box works wells)
- Some pressed leaves or flowers
- Transparency paper (e.g. baking paper)
- Sticks for decorating the stars
- Optional for that finishing touch – Wood print paper to cover the box (though you can also paint it)
- Electric Tealights
- Scissors or stanley knife (adults only) and glue
- Hot glue gun for adding the stick detail
I have created some star printables, as part of the Moon & Star Lacing Craft and these Eid Cards here. The stars (as they come in two sizes) would be suitable for this activity too. They are free to download. Simply enter $0 at checkout.
How to make your Star Lanterns for Eid or Ramadan:
Before we begin, be sure to visit instagram and The Whimsy Muslim Mama – for a good old browse and a follow!
Preparing your box with patterned paper or paint
You only need the “main body” of the box for your lantern i.e. you don’t need the lid of the shoebox/ other box. Begin by covering your box in your chosen wrapping paper (or paint). The back of your lantern will “be open” and standing against the wall. Allowing for easy access to the electric tealighs.
The main body of the box has been neatly covered. Note the back of the box is still open.
Using the free printable stars or some star cookie cutters, trace some stars on your box and carefully cut out. A stanley knife may be easier for this. Adults only.
Adding Pressed Flowers and Sticks to your Nature Lantern
Glue your pressed flowers or flower stickers onto your parchment paper.
Glue the parchment paper to the back of the cut out stars on the box.
Now use your sticks and twigs to outline your stars. Glue in place with a hot glue gun (adults only).
It is now time to add a shining light to your lantern.
Add the electric tealight to your lantern
Isn’t it pretty? You may wish to add a couple of tealights to make it really pop.
