What to make with Red Yarn – Free Crochet Patterns
If you are like us, we are always left over some some random colored balls of yarn.. and then looking for things to make with said color of yarn. So I thought it would be fun to start a bit of a collection of the different colored rainbow crochet patterns.. patterns that help you use up supplies you have a “lot of”. Heart Crochet Patterns are of course perfect for any red yarn scraps! Here is a super simple and super quick red yarn crochet pattern – that works with any thickness of yearn. Red Plush Yarn for squishies.. cotton yarn for heart pocket friends.
Mushroom Crochet Patterns/ Mushie Crochet
My daughter LOVES LOVE LOVES crocheting a Mushie – basically a mushroom person. They are so so cute.. and luckily for you there are a number of free mushroom patterns out there. The first one by the Friendly Red Fox, an amazing website that we have featured many times before and the second is on Yours Patterns.

Crochet in the Sun has a super fun little happy apple crochet pattern! This makes an adorable plushie that you could gift to a teacher on teacher appreciation day. Or make in a smaller cotton yarn as fabulous apple crochet keychains! So cute!

Similarly why not give these fabulous little crochet cherries a go. They are by Dandy Bee Makes! And are simply adorable. Again, you can play around with the yarn sizes and make plushies or keychains depending on yarn thickness and hook size!
Strawberry Corchet Pattern
Whilst on the topic of cute crochet fruit, we of course also need a free strawberry crochet patterns. Strawberries are perfect as key chains and quick and easy to make. Here is a great example by Stella’s Yarn Universe!
Watermelon Crochet Pattern
This is another great Red Yarn Craft… and if you make in the style of a classic rainbow crochet, it is actually a very quick craft that only needs a few rows of crochet. PLUS, if you add a hair clip inside, it turns into a fantastic fidget toy! Here is a great project on YouTube! Or here is another pattern, that I have used for fidget toy crochet at school fairs before.
Rose crochet projects
If you have red yarn to use up, then of course we also need a few flowers. Here is a relatively simple crochet rose pattern – that is great for adding to hair bands, or a bag as detail. So cute.

Now I think this is the section you have all been waiting for! Who doesn’t love a crochet critter or two. They are particularly popular at craft fairs to make and sell (though the Mushies always sell out at fairs too). Remember if making and selling, to keep an eye on those safety eyes when using plush yarn or mayb hand sew the eyes on instead!
Amigurumi Crab Crochets Patterns
The best animal critter to crochet using red yarn, I think is a crab!! Who doesn’t looove a crab. They are so cute and of course PERFECT for any red yarn. Free Elmo Crochet Pattern
Now is Elmo and animal? I don’t know.. but he sort fits into this section better! And when looking for red crafts or red yarn crafts, then of course Elmo HAS To feature. Amigurumi Cardinal Crochet Pattern
Stringy Ding Ding has a wonderful free amigurumy Cardinal Crochet Pattern! You can access it for free on their blog or actually get a printable PDF for a small fee (and ad free content!). Inky Pica Crochet share a second great cardinal bird corchet pattern. Perfect for those lovely red yarns!
Scarlet Parrot Crochet Patterns
There are the red cardinals.. and then there are Red Parrots, or Scarlet Parrots. Again, a choice of two free parrot crochet patterns. The first quicker parrot crochet project is by Stella’s Yarn Universe and the second the fabulous DIY Fluffies that we have featured on here before!
Angry birds crochet pattern
Snacksies makes a popular angry bird! This would be a super fun red yarn craft for Angry Bird Fans! Wouldn’t they look great as a Christmas Tree ornament too!

DIY Fluffies shares this lovely Red Panda Pattern. You can see in your sample photos that the pattern works really well with both a rusty orange yarn and a red yarn!

Strawberry cow/ turtle/ cat
There is trend out there to take a regular crochet animal and turn into “a fruity animal” – e.g. a cow crochet pattern and make it into a strawberry cow or strawberry turtle etc. So why not take your favourite animal crochet pattern.. and have a go with red yarn and add some yellow dots and a green crochet leaf or two? Ours here are more cerise, but they would work well with reds too!
